The competition formula of the 2013 Men's World Grand Champions Cup was a single Round-Robin system. Each team played once against each of the five remaining teams. Points were accumulated during the whole tournament, and the final standing was determined by the total points gained.

The 2014 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship was held in Poland from 30 August to 21 September 2014. The tournament featured 24 teams to determine the world champions in men's volleyball. In addition to the host nation Poland, 23 teams qualified for the tournament by means of continental and regional competitions. The matches took place in seven venues across seven Polish cities, with the final being held at Spodek, Katowice.

Team USA qualified for the 2013 FIVB Women's World Grand Champions Cup in Japan, after winning the Continental Championship 3–1 to the Dominican Republic. American Kelly Murphy won the MVP Award.

The top two teams, USA and Italy, qualified for the Olympics, and joined Brazil as they had already secured a berth as the host country.

The competition was held between May and July 2019, and the final round took place in the Credit Union 1 Arena, Chicago, United States. This was the first edition of the World League or the Nations League to have the final round hosted in North America.

The North American Qualification Tournament for the 2020 Men's Olympic Volleyball Tournament was a volleyball tournament for men's national teams held in Vancouver, Canada from 10 to 12 January 2020. Four teams played in the tournament and the winners Canada qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics.
The 2021 Men's South American Volleyball Championship was the 34th edition of the Men's South American Volleyball Championship, organised by South America's governing volleyball body, the Confederación Sudamericana de Voleibol (CSV). The tournament was held in Brasília, Brazil from 1 to 5 September 2021. The champions and runners up, qualified for the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship.
The 2021 Women's South American Volleyball Championship was the 34th edition of the Women's South American Volleyball Championship held in Barrancabermeja, Colombia and organised by South America's governing volleyball body, the Confederación Sudamericana de Voleibol (CSV). The champion and first runner-ups will qualify for the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship.
