The 1998 Southern vs. Prairie View A&M was a college football game that took place between the Prairie View A&M Panthers and the Southern Jaguars on September 19, 1998 in Beaumont, Texas, United States. The game was the final loss of 80 straight losses for the Prairie View program, but the game is infamous for a halftime brawl between the marching bands of the two schools.

The 15,000-seat stadium holds 10 skyboxes/suites and 500 premium seats, a field house featuring a large weight room, a dining area, academic support space, locker rooms and training rooms, and other amenities. They finished the season 22-13, to finish in 1st place. In the SWAC Tournament, they defeated Alcorn State, Grambling State, and Texas Southern to win the SWAC championship. Therefore, they received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as a 16th seed. However, they lost to fellow 16th seed Fairleigh Dickinson in the First Four.

The 1958 Prairie View A&M Panthers football team was an American football team that represented Prairie View A&M University in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) during the 1958 NCAA College Division football season. In their tenth season under head coach Billy Nicks, the Panthers compiled a 10–0–1 record, won the SWAC championship, and outscored opponents by a total of 369 to 101. In two post-season games, they defeated Florida A&M in the Orange Blossom Classic and Langston in the Prairie View Bowl. The Panthers were recognized as the 1958 black college national champion.
