The 2016–17 Desportivo da Praia season were in the island division of football (soccer). ^[1] The club finished third behind Boavista Praia and ahead of Académica da Praia.

The club scored 44 goals and had 14 wins, 4 ties, 4 losses and 46 points.

Santiago Island League (South)

The 2016-17 season would start third, then from round 2 climbed to first for two rounds. Their first match was on November 5 and Desportivo had a three match winning streak, Silvério o Rosário Sanches Lopes the season's first goal at the 59th minute, the next two matches had one player scored two goals. ^[2] Desportivo made a scoreless draw with Celtic on December 2 and was out of first place. Desportivo suffered a two match losing streak, the club scored only a goal in each of its matches, they lost to Académica then Boavista at the fifth round and the club dropped its position to 5th. A two match winning streak was followed and defeated Tchadense 2-0 and then Eugénio Lima 3-2 on January 15 and returned to 3rd place as they did in the first round of the season. ^[3] Another loss was followed to almighty Sporting Praia afterwards, another three match losing streak was next where Desportivo defeated Benfica, Vitória and Os Garridos. ^[4] Two back to back draws were followed, Desportivo made a two goal draw with Travadores on February 19, one of two were scored by Ro, together with Jordy and Narcelino are second in the most goals scored by player in the Santiago South Zone championships, Boavista's huge eight goal win over Garridos pushed the club's position down to third and remain for two weeks, they were second in goal scoring with 25. Desportivo's next two matches were no higher than a goal, they made a victory over ADESBA on February 25 ^[5] and later made a draw with Celtic Praia, Académica's win over Benfica placed Desportivo fourth, Ro was the only scorer, Sporting's mighty win put the club third in goal scoring for a week with only a goal difference, also the club has four more than Travadores. Another win was made with third placed Académica and won 1-3 ^[6] and regained the third position with 33 points and second in goal scoring with 32 goals, ahead of mighty Sporting Praia, Ro and Márcio Borges were its scorers, Ro's total would be third and shared with Anilton of António Paiva Tavares but they're the club's highest. The club made a goal draw with Boavista later and could not take the third position and headed back to fourth and could lose chance to become regional champion, Ro was its only scorer. Desportivo defeated Tchadense on March 24 and made their next win and regained their third position, Ro were one of the scorers, at the 19th round, they made their second straight where they defeated Eugénio Lima 1-3, there Ro scored another goal. ^[7] At the 18th round, the almighty Sporting now shared 35 goals with the club which was the region's second behind Boavista Praia and numbered 38. Desportivo lost to almighty Sporting Praia on April 7 with a score of 0-1 and became third in goal totals, a goal difference Another victory was made over Benfica Praia on April 22 and the score was 0-4, also their goal total became second again with 42, two more than Sporting, half of the goals were scored by Ro. Desportivo Praia defeated Vitória 2-1 which was their final match and kicked out Vitória from their appearance in the Premier Division in the following season, ^[8] the most by player were scored by Ro and totalled 16 which became the most in the region which superseded Mbutidem Sunday's (Sporting), Paiva Tavares's (Travadores) and Anilton's (Boavista Praia) 14 goals. Desportivo Praia finished 3rd with 14 wins and 4 draws, of which half were at home and away, the club also won 14 matches, four wins and scored 44 goals, second behind Boavista and a goal difference with Sporting. Of which its home and away goals were 50/50, a third of Desportivo's goals they conceded were at home.
