The 2016 San Marino and Rimini's Coast motorcycle Grand Prix was the thirteenth round of the 2016 MotoGP season. It was held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Misano Adriatico on 11 September 2016.

The Misano World Circuit, also known as Marco Simoncelli Circuit is a race track located next to the town of Misano Adriatico in the frazione of Santa Monica. Originally designed in 1969 as a length of 3.488 kilometres (2.17 mi), it hosted its first event in 1972. In 1993, the track length was increased to 4.064 kilometres (2.53 mi).

Misano Adriatico is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Rimini in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about 120 kilometres (75 mi) southeast of Bologna and about 14 kilometres (9 mi) southeast of Rimini.

After the first three practice sessions Michele Pirro, who was already competing in the event as a wild card entry, was designated as the replacement rider for the injured Andrea Iannone.^[4]

Michele Pio Pirro is a motorcycle racer from Italy, who currently races in the CIV Superbike Championship aboard a Ducati Panigale. He has also competed in Grand Prix motorcycle racing and the Supersport World Championship.

Andrea Iannone is an Italian professional motorcycle racer who currently competes in the world championship at MotoGP level, for Aprilia Racing Team Gresini.
