The 2017 AFF Futsal Championship will be the 14th edition of the tournament. The tournament will be second AFF Futsal Championship to be held in 2017, with the first one originally meant to be hosted in 2016 to be held in early 2017.
The tournament served as qualifiers for the 2018 AFC Futsal Championship. [1]
The draw was held on 17 February 2017 during the AFF Council Meeting at the Novotel Yangon Max Hotel in Yangon, Myanmar. [2] A redraw was held in September 2017 due to the withdrawal of Australia. [3]
The all matches was held at the Phú Thọ Indoor Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.

In the event the Philippines, Timor Leste or both finish among the top two teams in their group the next best team/s qualify for the 2018 AFC Futsal Championship instead since both countries did not submit their entries for the said continental tournament. [4]

The 2004 AFF Championship was the 5th edition of the AFF Championship, the football championship of nations affiliated to the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), and the last time under the name Tiger Cup. This was the first time a new format had been applied, with Group stage was jointly hosted by Vietnam and Malaysia from 7 to 16 December 2004, and top two teams from each group advanced to the Semi-finals and the Final, which was played in a two-leg home-and-away format from 28 December 2004 to 16 January 2005. This was also the final AFF Cup has a Third-place match, then it wasn't continued since the 2007 edition.
The 2005 AFC Futsal Championship was held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from 22 May to 4 June 2005.
Futsal at the 2009 Asian Indoor Games was held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from 28 October to 7 November. All the women's events were in Tân Bình Gymnasium and the men's were in Phú Thọ Indoor Stadium.

The 2012 AFC Futsal Club Championship qualification will be held in late 2012 to determine 4 spots to the final tournament in Kuwait City. The teams finishing first, second and third in the 2011 AFC Futsal Club Championship, and the host Champion for the 2012 competition, receive automatic byes to Finals.
The 2014 AFC Futsal Championship was held in Vietnam from 30 April to 10 May 2014. 16 countries took part in the 13th edition of the tournament. Japan won the championship and successfully defended their title from the 2012 AFC Futsal Championship.

The tournament was held in Uzbekistan between 10–21 February 2016. A total of 16 teams played in the tournament.
The 2016 AFC Futsal Championship qualification was a men's futsal competition which decided the participating teams of the 2016 AFC Futsal Championship. A total of 16 teams qualified to play in the final tournament, including Japan, Iran, Uzbekistan (hosts), who qualified directly as the top three finishers of the 2014 AFC Futsal Championship. Since third-placed Uzbekistan qualified automatically as hosts, Kuwait, who finished fourth, would have also qualified as the next best-ranked team, but they were later replaced due to FIFA's suspension of the Kuwait Football Association.
