The 2017 Best of Nollywood Awards was the 9th edition of the ceremony and took place in Abeokuta, Ogun State on 17 December 2017. [1] [2] The event was co-hosted by Rahama Shadau and Gbenro Ajibade. [3] [4]
The nominee list was released in September 2017 with Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde, Mercy Aigbe, and Alex Ekubo identified as the "top contenders". About 120 films were considered including 113 feature films, 7 short films and 2 TV shows. [5]
Awards were given in 32 categories, with Adesua Etomi, Beverly Naya, Gabriel Afolayan and Alex Ekubo amongst the winners. The lifetime achievement awards for special contribution to the development of Nollywood was given to Omotola Jalade-Ekiende, Ali Nuhu and filmmaker, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen. [3] [6]

Omotola Jalade Ekeinde is a Nigerian actress, singer, philanthropist and former model. Since her Nollywood film debut in 1995, Ekeinde has appeared in over 300 films, selling millions of copies. Omotola is the second Nigerian and first Nigerian celebrity to receive over 1 million likes on her Facebook page. She currently has a total of 3 million followers on Facebook.
Last Flight to Abuja is a 2012 Nigerian disaster thriller film written by Tunde Babalola, directed and produced by Obi Emelonye, and starring Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Hakeem Kae-Kazim and Jim Iyke. Shot in Lagos, the film received 5 nominations at the 2013 Africa Movie Academy Awards, winning the category "Best film by an African based abroad". On 15 June 2020, 'Last Flight To Abuja' began streaming on Netflix eight years after it first premiered in London.
Alexx Ekubo is a Nigerian actor and model. He was first runner up at the 2010 Mr Nigeria contest. He won the Best Actor in a Supporting Role award at the 2013 Best of Nollywood Awards for his role in the Weekend Getaway.
Osas Ighodaro is a Nigerian American actress, producer, host and humanitarian. Osas emerged as highest-grossing Nollywood actress of 2018. She was awarded as the “Best Actress in a Drama” in the 2022 AMVCA for her role played in the movie Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story.
A Private Storm is a 2010 Nigerian romantic drama film, co-directed by Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen and Ikechukwu Onyeka. It stars Ramsey Nouah, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Ngozi Ezeonu, Ufuoma Ejenobor and John Dumelo. It was premiered on 18 December 2010 at Four Points Hotel, Lekki.
