The 2017 Collegiate Basketball Awards was an awarding ceremony organized by the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps, a group of sports journalists who are covering the men's basketball tournaments of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). UAAP Press Corps is currently headed by Reuben Terrado of Sports Interactive Network Philippines, while the NCAA Press Corps is headed by Cedelf P. Tupas of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Kiefer Ravena Filipino basketball player

Kiefer Isaac Crisologo Ravena is a Filipino professional basketball player for Shiga Lakestars of the Japanese B.League. Ravena played for the Ateneo Blue Eagles of the UAAP during his college days. He plays the point guard position.

Marco Januz "Juno" Sauler is a basketball coach and former basketball player from the Philippines. He was a former head coach of the De La Salle University Green Archers, a collegiate team in the UAAP. Sauler is currently part of coaching staff of the Magnolia Hotshots in the Philippine Basketball Association.

Jeron Teng Filipino basketball player

Jeron Alvin Uy Teng is a Filipino professional basketball player for the Converge FiberXers of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). As a PBA player, he usually starts at the swingman position but occasionally plays as a power forward during the Philippine Cup. A renowned prodigy, he holds multiple high school records for the Xavier Golden Stallions. After his famous high school career, he played for the De La Salle Green Archers in the UAAP with equally great success. He won a couple UAAP championships as the team captain and has the rare distinction of simultaneously winning two UAAP finals MVP awards.

UAAP Season 79

UAAP Season 79 is the 2016–2017 athletic year of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). This season, hosted by the University of Santo Tomas officially opened on September 3, 2016. The opening ceremony was held at the UST Plaza Mayor at 3:00 pm with the formal introduction of ballroom dancing as a demonstration sport in this season by the host school University of Santo Tomas (UST) at España, Manila. The official ceremony started at 5:00 pm as there was a concert party themed "Dare to Dream" where the official theme song for the season was revealed. However, unlike in the previous years when the first double-header basketball games were held following the opening ceremonies, this year it was held the following day, September 4 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
