The 2017 IPSC Rifle World Shoot I held at the Patriot Park in Kubinka, Moscow, Russia was the first IPSC Rifle World Shoot. The match consisted of 30 stages over 6 days and 591 competitors from 40 nations.[ citation needed ]

Contents

Originally the championship was planned to be held during 2016, but was rescheduled to 2017 in order to finish the construction of the new shooting range in Patriot Park near Moscow. [1] The majority of targets were placed between 60 and 100 meters, but many stages also included targets between 200 and 300 meters. [2]

The Semi Auto Open division had the largest match participation with 369 competitors (62.4%).[ citation needed ]

Shoot-Off side event

The shoot-off side event was an audience friendly one-against-one elimination cup held after the main match. It consisted of quarter finals, semi-finals, bronze and gold finals. The top 16 overall in each division and top 8 category shooters in each division were qualified, and the event was broadcast live with commentary on web television. [3]

The International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) is the world's largest shooting sport association, and the largest and oldest within practical shooting. Founded in 1976, the IPSC nowadays affiliates over 100 regions from Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Oceania. Competitions are held with pistol, revolver, rifle, and shotgun, and the competitors are divided into different divisions based on firearm and equipment features. The 1996 IPSC Handgun World Shoot XI held in Brasilia, Brazil was the 11th IPSC Handgun World Shoot. The match had 609 competitors, teams from 31 nations and consisted of 35 stages. The Open division was won by Todd Jarrett, while the Standard division once again was won by Ted Bonnet of USA. Todd Jarret from Virginia had established himself as a major player before the event, having placed in the top four of the US Nationals every year since 1990 except one. According to himself he had trained well before the World Shoot in Brazil, and was quoted saying "It's really amazing, the harder I work, the luckier I get."

The 1999 IPSC Handgun World Shoot XII held in Cebu, Philippines was the 12th IPSC Handgun World Shoot. Eric Grauffel of France became Open World Champion, Pavel Jasansky of the Czech Republic became Modified World Champion and Michael Voigt of the United States took the Standard World Champion title.

Lena Miculek is an American practical sport shooter who took gold medal at the 2017 IPSC Rifle World Shoot in the Open division, Lady category, and three gold medals in the IPSC Shotgun Standard division, Lady category, from the 2012, 2015 and 2018 IPSC Shotgun World Shoot. She is the daughter of IPSC Revolver World Champion Jerry Miculek and Handgun Lady Open Champion Kay Clark Miculek, whose brother was the gunsmith Jim Clark of Clark Custom Guns. Miculek has competed since she was eight years old and started competing actively in 2011.
