The 2017 Open de Cagnes-sur-Mer Alpes-Maritimes was a professional tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was the twentieth edition of the tournament and part of the 2017 ITF Women's Circuit, offering a total of $100,000 in prize money. It took place in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France, from 8–14 May 2017.

Tennis is a racket sport that can be played individually against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to maneuver the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball will not gain a point, while the opposite player will.

A clay court is one of many different types of tennis court. Clay courts are made of crushed shale, stone, brick, or other unbound mineral aggregates. The French Open uses clay courts, making it unique among the Grand Slam tournaments. Clay courts are more common in Continental Europe and Latin America than in North America, Asia or Britain. Two main types exist: red clay, the more common variety, and green clay, also known as "rubico", which is a harder surface. Although less expensive to construct than other types of tennis courts, the maintenance costs of clay are high as the surface must be rolled to preserve flatness.

The 2017 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women's Circuit is a second-tier tour for women's professional tennis. It is organized by the International Tennis Federation and is a tier below the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour. The ITF Women's Circuit includes tournaments with prize money ranging from $15,000 to $100,000.

Chang Kai-chen is a Taiwanese tennis player.

Hsieh Su-wei is a Taiwanese professional tennis player. Her career-high singles ranking is world No. 23, a position she reached on 25 February 2013. She won the doubles events of 2013 Wimbledon Championships, the 2014 French Open and 2013 WTA Tour Championships, all partnered with Peng Shuai. Her singles achievements include reaching the fourth round at the Australian Open in 2008 and 2018, and the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2018. She is the first Taiwanese tennis player, male or female, in history to achieve a top-25 ranking in singles, and the first to achieve a world No. 1 ranking in doubles.
