On 14 January 2017, a boat carrying more than 40 passengers capsized in the Ganges in the Indian city of Patna, Bihar, killing 25 people. [1] [2] The boat was about to reach the bank when it capsized. [3] Overloading is suspected to be the cause of the accident. [2]
The boat was returning from a kite-flying festival on an island called Ganga Diyara in the middle of the Ganges, as part of the Makar Sankranti celebration in the city of Patna. [3] [4] [5] The small boat, which was overloaded with passengers, [3] was about to reach the bank when it capsized. [3] The boat's capacity was 30 people, but estimates from local officials placed its actual load at 40 to 50. [6]
Rescue operations located 19 bodies on 14 January, and five more on 15 January before they ended once, according to local police, there were no more outstanding missing persons. [6] Nine people were retrieved from the river by rescuers, [5] while about a dozen swam to shore. [6] Eight people were hospitalized [6] at the Patna Medical College and Hospital(PMCH) [5]
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, announced an ex gratia payment from the Prime Minister National Relief Fund of ₹2 lakh for the next of kin of those who died in the boat accident and ₹50 thousand for those seriously injured. [1] [7] Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also announced that compensation of ₹4 lakh will be given to relatives of each of the dead. [4]
Gandhi Maidan is a historic ground in Patna, near the banks of the Ganges River, in Bihar, India. The Golghar falls to its west. During the period of 1824–1833, under British rule, it was used as a golf course and horse racing track and was called Patna Lawns. It is spread across 60 acres of land. It has a great political significance as well.

Purvanchal Expressway is a 340.8 km long, 6-lane wide access-controlled expressway in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The expressway connects Chand Saray village near Gosainganj in Lucknow district with Haydaria village on NH-31 in Ghazipur district. It is developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). The Purvanchal Expressway has a 3.2 km long airstrip at Akhalkiri Karwat village near Kurebhar in Sultanpur district for emergency landing of aircraft. The construction work was started by the UPEIDA on 10 October 2018 and was inaugurated and opened to the public on 16 November 2021.
On 10 April 2016 at approximately 03:30 AM IST, the Puttingal Temple in Paravur, Kollam, Kerala, India, experienced an explosion and fire after firework celebrations went awry. As a result, 111 people were killed and more than 350 were injured, including some with severe burns. The temple and at least 150 houses in the area of the temple were damaged by the blast. According to local reports and eyewitnesses, the explosion and fire were caused by sparks from a firecracker being used in a competitive fireworks display igniting fireworks in a concrete storehouse. The temple did not have permission from Kerala government authorities to conduct a "competitive fireworks display". About 15,000 pilgrims were visiting the temple to mark local Hindu celebrations during the last day of a seven-day festival of the goddess Bhadrakali.
On 20 November 2016, the Indore–Patna Express 19321, a scheduled train from Indore to Patna, derailed near Pukhrayan, Kanpur, India, resulting in at least 150 deaths and more than 150 injuries. It is the deadliest train accident in India since 1999, when the Gaisal train disaster claimed 290 lives.

On 19 October 2018, two Indian Railways passenger trains rode into a crowd of people in the eastern outskirts of Amritsar, Punjab. The crowd had gathered to watch celebrations for the Hindu festival of Dussehra and were standing on the tracks. The accident occurred in the early evening, killing at least 59 people and injuring approximately an additional 100.

On 20 August 2020, a major fire broke out in late night hours in an underground hydroelectric power plant in Srisailam in the state of Telangana. The fire blaze killed 9 people, including 5 engineers and 15 employees who were inside the power plant escaped since the fire broke out. It was suspected that the fire broke out due to a short circuit situated at Srisailam's dam left bank. The fire was brought under control by the firefighters after several hours of struggle as of 21 August 2020 and the rescue operations were delayed for hours due to smoke. The bodies of nine workers were recovered during the rescue operations.

The 2021 Mumbai landslide was a series of landslides that occurred in Chembur and Vikhroli, the suburban neighbourhood located in Mumbai, India on 18 July 2021. At least thirty-two people were killed and several others injured after they were trapped under houses that collapsed due to landslides caused by heavy rains. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the loss of lives and announced ₹2 lakh ex-gratia for family of each deceased victim while a sum of ₹50,000 would be given to the injured from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
