The 2017 Santosh Trophy Final was the 71st final of Santosh Trophy, the football competition contested by regional State associations and government institutions under the All India Football Federation. It was contested between Goa and West Bengal on 26 March 2017 at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim. Bengal beat Goa 1–0 in extra time, with the only goal being scored by Manvir Singh.

Background

West Bengal went into the final with a record of 31 wins from 41 Santosh Trophy finals and Goa with five out of eleven, with the two teams sharing the trophy in 1982–83. They met six time previously in the final, and Bengal had won five. Goa, however, won their last meeting, in 2008–09. [1] Bengal had defeated Goa the last time the latter hosted the competition, in 1995–96. [2]

The GMC Athletic Stadium in Bambolim is the first integrated athletic complex in Goa. It has been constructed according to IAAF specifications and norms and has hosted the athletic events of 2014 Lusofonia Games. The field is covered with natural turf and has been used as the training ground for the FC Goa developmental squad. In 2020, it was chosen as one of the three venues to host for 2020-21 season of Indian Super League.

The 1997–98 Santosh Trophy was the 54th edition of the Santosh Trophy, the main State competition for football in India. It was held between 16 and 27 April 1998 in Guwahati, Assam. In the final, Bengal beat Goa 1–0 in a repeat of the previous edition's final. It was their fifth consecutive win and 28th overall.
