The Jammu and Kashmir football team is an Indian football team representing Jammu and Kashmir in Indian state football competitions including the Santosh Trophy. [1] [2] [3] [4]

The team took part in the 72nd Santosh Trophy held in Uttar Pradesh during January 2018. Akif Javed Reshi from Anantnag was the captain of the team. [5]

Jammu and Kashmir has hosted the Santosh Trophy twice, in 1979 and 2007. [6]

Before the launch of the first national club league, the National Football League in 1996, the Santosh Trophy was considered the top domestic tournament in India. Many players who have represented India internationally have played and gained honour while playing in the Santosh Trophy. The tournament is held every year with eligible teams who are divided into zones, must play in the qualifying round and can progress into the tournament proper. The current champions are Karnataka, who won their title after 54 years during the 2022–23 edition. This was the first trophy for Karnataka, which had previously won four times as the princely state of Mysore, after 1968-69.

Abdul Majeed Kakroo is a retired Indian footballer from Kashmir who played as a striker and he represented India at the 1984 Asian Cup. He became the first player from Kashmir to captain India when he captained the team during the 1987 Nehru Cup. He played for both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal during his club career. One of the stands at the TRC Turf Ground has been named after him by Real Kashmir FC.
