The Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) [1] is one of the 36 Indian state football associations affiliated with the All India Football Federation. [2] [3]
The Jammu and Kashmir Football Association is the governing body for football in Jammu and Kashmir. It was formed and granted recognition by Jammu & Kashmir State Sports Council and the All India Football Federation in 1964. Since 1964 the association has been qualified to take part in the Santosh Trophy and all other competitions in the country.
JKFA organises the Jammu & Kashmir Premier Football League. [4] It also sends state teams for Santosh Trophy and Senior Women's National Football Championship.
National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy, due to ties with FIFA, also known as the FIFA Santosh Trophy, or simply Santosh Trophy, is an inter-state national football competition contested by the state associations and government institutions under the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the sport's governing body in India. Before the launch of the first national club league, the National Football League in 1996, the Santosh Trophy was considered the top domestic honour in India. Many players who have represented India internationally, have played and gained honour while playing in the Santosh Trophy. The tournament is held every year with eligible teams who are divided into zones, must play in the qualifying round and can progress into the tournament proper. The current champions are Karnataka, who won their title after 54 years during the 2022–23 edition. This was the first trophy for Karnataka, which had previously won four times as the princely state of Mysore, after 1968-69.
Mehrajuddin Wadoo is an Indian professional manager and former footballer. During his playing days, Wadoo played for clubs such as Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Salgaocar, Pune City, Chennaiyin, and Mumbai City. He also represented the India national team from 2005 to 2011.
Inder Singh is an India former football player and captain, manager and administrator. He played for Leaders Club of Jalandhar, JCT Mills, and the India national team, predominantly as a forward. He began his senior professional career with Leaders Club in 1962 and moved to JCT Mills in 1974. Playing for Punjab in the Santosh Trophy, he finished the 1974–75 tournament with 23 goals, a record that still stands. He was included in the AFC Asian All Stars team in 1968. He retired as a player in 1985.

They were the second Indian team to participate in the continental top tier tournament – Asian Champion Club Tournament, by playing in the 1970 edition following Mysore in 1969.

Mizoram football enthusiasts started Aizawl Sport Association in 1945. After 1972, the name was changed to Mizoram Sports Association. The stadium has a capacity of 30,000 spectators.Built in 2013 as part of the Malappuram District Sports Complex. Sajid Yousuf Dar is a former football player and is the former Head Coach of Senior Indian Women National Football Team and Indian Youth Football Teas (Boys). He is currently AIFF/AFC Coach Educator and Working as a Football Coach in University of Kashmir. During his playing days, Sajid represented Jammu and Kashmir in the Santosh Trophy from 2000 to 2002. He captained JK YMCA in Federation Cup in 1998. He is considered to be one of the best football coaches in the country. He holds the record for Winning two consecutive Silverwares, the Gold in South Asian Games and the SAFF CUP. He is son of international footballer Mohammad Yousuf Dar.
Popular sports in Jammu and Kashmir include cricket, football and winter sports along with sports like golf, water sports, Ice stock sport and adventure sports. The National Winter Games have been held in Gulmarg in 1996, 2004 and 2009. The first Khelo India Winter Games were held in February and March 2020 in Leh and Gulmarg. Jammu and Kashmir won the most gold medals while the Indian Army team came second with 8 gold medals. The second edition of the winter games were also held successfully in Gulmarg in 2020 with Jammu and Kashmir coming first and Karnataka second.
