The Himachal Pradesh Football Association (abbreviated HPFA) is one of the 36 Indian state football associations that are affiliated to the All India Football Federation. [1]

History

The Himachal Pradesh Football Association was founded on 1971 with the objective of fostering the growth of football in the state. Over the years, it has become a vital institution in the sporting landscape of Himachal Pradesh, contributing significantly to the advancement of football at both the amateur and professional levels.

Background

The HPFA is the governing body of football in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is a permanent member of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and is registered under the Societies Act. The HPFA organizes various football tournaments and activities in the state, such as the Himachal Quiz Competition, the Futsal Himachal Introductory Webinar, and the HPFA Junior Boys Camp. It also sends state teams for national competitions, such as the Santosh Trophy and the Senior Women’s National Football Championship. The HPFA has 32 approved clubs, 12 registered districts, and 4 grounds in the state. The current president of the HPFA is Mr. Sunil Sharma and the honorary secretary is Mr. Deepak Sharma.

Before the launch of the first national club league, the National Football League in 1996, the Santosh Trophy was considered the top domestic honour in India. The tournament is held every year with eligible teams who are divided into zones, must play in the qualifying round and can progress into the tournament proper. The current champions are Karnataka, who won their title after 54 years during the 2022–23 edition.
