The 2017 Sultan of Johor Cup was the seventh edition of the Sultan of Johor Cup, a field hockey tournament. It was held in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia from 22 to 29 October 2017.

Contents

As in previous editions, a total of six teams competed for the title. England, New Zealand as well as Pakistan who competed previously, were absent from the tournament. The teams were replaced by Great Britain, India and United States.

Participating nations

Including the host nation, 6 teams competed in the tournament.

A total of seven umpires were appointed by the FIH and National Association to officiate the tournament.

The 2016 Men's Hockey Junior World Cup was the 11th edition of the Hockey Junior World Cup for men, an international field hockey tournament. It was held in Lucknow, India from 8–18 December 2016. A total of sixteen teams competed for the title.

Harmanpreet Singh is an Indian field hockey player as well as the captain of the Indian national hockey team. He plays as a defender, is a penalty corner specialist, and is regarded as one of the best drag flickers in the world. He has scored the most number of international goals for India in modern day hockey. He led the team to clinch the bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This was his second bronze in three appearances at the Olympics. Singh also captained the team to win a gold at the 2022 Asian Games. He has won the Player of the Year title at the FIH Awards thrice.
