World Club Challenge

As winners of the 2016 Super League Grand Final, Wigan Warriors qualified for the 2017 World Club Series. The game saw them play Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks whom they beat providing the Super League's first ever win in the World Club Series era of the tournament. [1]

Super League

Wigan's Super League form was relatively poor during the 2017 season. The year was the first time they had lost ten more games since 2009, and the first time they had failed to qualify for the play-offs since 2006. [2]

Challenge Cup

As a "Super 8s" team of the 2016 Super League, Wigan Warriors entered the 2017 Challenge Cup in the sixth round where they beat Championship's Swinton Lions. The quarter finals saw them beat local rivals Warrington Wolves by a single point. [3] In the semi-finals Warriors beat Salford Red Devils, [4] before finishing runners-up at Wembley to Hull F.C. The final was their first final since 2013. [5]

The 2017 Challenge Cup Final was the 116th cup-deciding game of the rugby league 2017 Challenge Cup Season. It was held at Wembley Stadium in London on 26 August 2017, kick off 15:00. The final was contested by Hull F.C. and Wigan Warriors. The game saw Hull F.C. beat Wigan by 18 points to 14.

The 2012 Challenge Cup Final was the 111th cup-deciding game of the rugby league 2012 Challenge Cup Season. It was held at Wembley Stadium in London on 25 August 2012, kick off 14:30. The final was contested by Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves. The game saw Warrington beat Leeds by 35 points to 18.

The 2020 season is Wigan Warriors's 40th consecutive season playing in England's top division of rugby league. During the season, they competed in the Super League XXV and the 2020 Challenge Cup.

The 2021 season will be Wigan Warriors's 41st consecutive season playing in England's top division of rugby league. During the season, they will compete in the Super League XXVI and the 2021 Challenge Cup.
