The 47th FIE Fencing World Cup began in October 2017 and concluded in July 2018 at the 2018 World Fencing Championships held in Wuxi. [1] [2] Of the 153 national federations in the International Fencing Federation (FIE), 108 were represented in Wuxi with 771 athletes participating.

The FIE Fencing World Cup is an international fencing competition held by the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime. In each weapon, three Grand Prix, five World Cup events and several satellite events are contested each season. The five top results as well as the Olympic Games or World Fencing Championships and zonal championships results are taken into account for each fencer's rankings. For teams, up to five World Cup events are held each year. The four top results as well as the Olympic Games or World Fencing Championships and zonal championships are taken into account for each country's rankings.

The 2018 World Fencing Championships was held from 19 to 27 July at 2018 in Wuxi, China.

Wuxi Prefecture-level city in Jiangsu, Peoples Republic of China

Wuxi is a city in southern Jiangsu province, eastern China, 135 kilometres (84 mi) by road northwest of the centre of Shanghai, between Changzhou and Suzhou. In 2017 it had a population of 3,542,319, with 6,553,000 living in the entire prefecture-level city area.

Irene Vecchi Italian fencer

Irene Vecchi is an Italian sabre fencer. She earned a bronze medal in the 2013 World Championships and 2017 World Championships, an individual bronze at the 2013 European Championships and won the team gold medal at the 2011 European Fencing Championships. She has twice competed for Italy at the Olympics, in the women's sabre individual in 2012 and 2016 and in the women's team sabre in 2016.

The 45th FIE Fencing World Cup began in October 2015 and concluded in August 2016 at the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro. The International Fencing Federation being allocated only ten events by the International Olympic Committee, as opposed to twelve in major fencing competitions, two team events – in this case, women's team foil and men's team sabre — will be disputed as World Championships, held in Rio in April 2016. They also serve as test event for the organisation of the Olympic events.
