The 2007 Asian Wrestling Championships were held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The event took place from May 8 to May 13, 2007.
Aisuluu Tynybekova is a Kyrgyz freestyle wrestler. She won the silver medal in the women's 62 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. She also competed in the women's 63 kg event at the 2012 Summer Olympics, the first woman to wrestle for Kyrgyzstan in the Olympics. A legal dispute threatened to prevent Tynybekova from competing in London, but the case was delayed until after the Games. Tynybekova was eliminated in the 1/8 finals by Henna Johansson.

The Kyrgyzstan competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. Kyrgyzstan made its first appearance at the Asian Games in 1994 Hiroshima, and the best achievement was in the 2002 Busan, with a gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals. At the last edition in Incheon, Kyrgyzstan managed to claim 2 silver and 4 bronze medals.
Akzhol Makhamadzhanovich Makhmudov is a Kyrgyzstani Greco-Roman wrestler. He won the silver medal in 77 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He won a gold medal at the 2022 World Championships, becoming Kyrgyzstan's first ever Greco-Roman World champion. Makhmudov repeated his success a year later at the 2023 World Championships, and won another gold medal- becoming a two-time World champion.

North Korea and Turkmenistan were unable to participate in the tournament due to circumstances stemming from the outbreak.

Daichi Takatani is a Japanese freestyle wrestler. He won the silver medal in the 65 kg event at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. In the same year, he also won the silver medal in the 65 kg event at the 2018 Asian Wrestling Championships held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Adilet Davlumbayev is a Kazakhstani freestyle wrestler. He won one of the bronze medals in the 86 kg event at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
