The 2018 Royal Bank Cup was the 48th Canadian junior A Ice Hockey National Championship for the Canadian Junior Hockey League and the 48th consecutive year a national championship was awarded to this skill level since the breakaway of Major Junior hockey in 1970. The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) is an association of Canadian junior A ice hockey leagues and teams and was formed in November 1993, emerging from the Canada West Association of Junior 'A' Hockey. The champion of the Canadian Junior Hockey League wins the Centennial Cup.
The Centennial Cup is an annual ice hockey tournament organized by Hockey Canada and the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL), which determines the national champion of junior A ice hockey. It consists of a ten-team round robin featuring the winners of all nine CJHL member leagues as well as a pre-selected host city.
The Winkler Flyers are a Junior ice hockey team in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) team playing out of the Winkler Arena in Winkler, Manitoba, Canada. The Flyers entered the MJHL as an expansion team for the 1980-81 season and have won four Turnbull Cup Championships as Manitoba Junior 'A' Champions as well as the ANAVET Cup in 1992. The 2017–18 season was the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's (MJHL) 101st year of operation. The Steinbach Pistons finished with best regular season record for the second consecutive year and defeated the Virden Oil Capitals to win their second Turnbull Cup.

For the second straight season, all nine CJHL league champions and the host team participated in the tournament.
The 2017–18 CCHL season was the 57th season of the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL). Teams played a 62-game regular-season schedule. The league championship Ottawa Jr. Senators and runners-up Carleton Place Canadians both competed at the Eastern Canada championship 2018 Fred Page Cup, which was hosted by the Ottawa Jr. Senators. The Ottawa Jr. Senators won the Eastern Canada championship and went on to compete for the 2018 Royal Bank Cup at the national championship tournament in Chilliwack, British Columbia.
