The 2019 Auckland Open was a joint ATP and WTA tennis tournament, played on outdoor hard courts. It was the 34th edition of the women's event, and the 43rd edition of the men's event. It took place at the ASB Tennis Centre in Auckland, New Zealand, from 31 December 2018 to 6 January 2019 for the women, and from 7 to 12 January 2019 for the men.

Defending champion Rafael Nadal successfully defended his title, defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final, 6–3, 6–0, to win the men's singles title at the 2019 Canadian Open. This was the first time Nadal defended a hardcourt title.

Djokovic became the first new singles titlist on the ATP Tour since its suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.

Rafael Nadal defeated the defending champion Novak Djokovic in the final, 7–5, 1–6, 6–3 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2021 Italian Open. It was his record-extending 10th Italian Open title and record-equaling 36th Masters 1000 title overall. Nadal saved two match points in his third round match against Denis Shapovalov en route to the title. This was also the fourth time that Nadal had won a tournament on 10 or more occasions, making him the only tennis player with the feat.

Casper Ruud defeated Hugo Gaston in the final, 6–3, 6–2, to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2021 Swiss Open.

Miomir Kecmanović was the defending champion, but chose to compete at the Summer Olympics instead.

Novak Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final, 6–0, 7–6(7–5) to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2022 Italian Open. It was his sixth Italian Open title and record-extending 38th Masters 1000 title overall. Djokovic did not lose a set during the tournament, and won his 1000th tour-level career match by reaching the final. It was the first title he won in 2022.
