The 2019 Cape Verdean Football Championships is the 40th season of the Cape Verdean Football Championships, the top-tier football league in Cape Verde.

Overview

A total of 12 clubs participate in the national championship (Campeonato Nacional). [1] Cape Verdean clubs in the nine inhabited islands will play between late 2017 and early 2018 in the eleven regional leagues, where each league winner qualify for the national championship. The defending champions also qualify, and if they win their regional league, the runner-up of their league also qualifies.

FC Derby won the 3rd title and did not receive entry to the 2006 CAF Champions League. No second place club would also receive entry to the 2006 CAF Confederation Cup

The 2007 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 28th of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 12 May and finished on 21 July, earlier than the last season. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. Sporting would win their 6th title and second straight after defeating Académica do Mindelo under the away goals rule, the only time it happened, the scorer was Dário who scored their only goal at the finals during stoppage time. They would have entry to the 2008 CAF Champions League. No second place team would also participate in the 2008 CAF Confederation Cup

The 2008 Cape Verdean Football Championships season was the 29th of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 10 May and finished on 16 August, later than the last season. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. Sporting would win their 7th title and third straight after defeating Académica do Mindelo in penalty kicks. Sporting gained entry into the 2009 CAF Champions League, it is the last club to enter to date. No second place club would participate in the 2009 CAF Confederation Cup.

The 2010 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 31st of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 8 May, slightly later than the last season and finished on 10 July, later than last year. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. It was the second consecutive time that the final featured two clubs from the same island and city, the next time it happened would be five years later. It brought the Capital Rivalry between Sporting and Boavista to the national championships. Another club of Praia named Boavista FC winning the national title breaking Sporting Praia's consecutive title wins. A month later, Boavista Praia would become the only club to win both the championship and the cup title in the same season.

The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. CS Mindelense won the 2011 title. No teams would participate in the 2012 CAF Champions League or the 2012 CAF Confederation Cup.

The Porto Novo Cup is a regional football (soccer) cup competition played during the season in the southern and westernmost parts of Santo Antão Island, Cape Verde. The winner participates in the Cape Verdean Cup. The cup tournament is organized by the Santo Antão South Regional Football Association. The first entrant was in 2007. Since 2013, there were no entrants to the national cup due to financial concerns. From the 2015 edition, the winner qualifies into the Santo Antão Cup, a single island cup competition challenging a club from the north.

The 2015 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 36th beginner level competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 9 May and finished on 11 July. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. The schedule including its matches were created on Saturday January 10. CS Mindelense won the eleventh title and became the second club after Sporting Praia to win three in a row. Neither clubs participated in the CAF Champions League competition in 2016 and in the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup. This was the second ever and most recent finals competition that two clubs came from the same island as well as the same city.

Cape Verde has risen to prominence in a number of sporting areas in recent decades.

The 2016 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 37th beginner level competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. It started on 14 May and finished on 9 July, it started five days later than last season and finished two days earlier, the season was a week shorter than last. The championship was governed by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. The scheduling was completed on November 16 and the group system was kept instead of becoming a one portion season without playoffs and was the last time. CS Mindelense won the record breaking title and became the second club after Sporting Praia to win four in a row, the highest ever, also it was Mindelense's last. Mindelense chose to not participate in the CAF Champions League competition in 2017, Académica do Porto Novo did not participate in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup, both of the clubs due to financial concerns, of any club, it is the eighth consecutive time and becomes the recent African nation not to bring a champion to the continentals for the most consecutive years, in the cup competition, Cape Verde is the longest for not bringing a club in Africa lasting for more than 15 years straight, not even the three national cup winners competed. Mindelense qualified and participated in the 2017 National Championships.

The Fogo Island Cup is a regional cup competition and is played during the season in the island of Fogo, Cape Verde, it consists of all the clubs from all the two regional divisions and are divided into about four to five rounds, for some seasons, a group stage was featured. The cup competition is organized by the Fogo Regional Football Association. The cup winner competes in the regional super cup final in the following season when a cup winner also wins the championship, a runner-up competes. For several seasons, the winner qualified into Cape Verdean Cup which has been cancelled due to financial and scheduling reasons.

The Cape Verdean Super Cup is a Super Cup competition played during the season in Cape Verde. The competition is governed by the Cape Verdean Football Federation (FCF). The national championship winner competes with the cup winner, in the 2014 edition, the 2013 super cup winner played with the 2014 national champion. The first super cup competition began in 2013 which took place on 1 May and the last one took place in 2014 which took place on 30 April. The regional champion competes with the cup champion. Sometimes, if a champion also has a cup title, a cup club who is runner-up qualifies which never did. since 2017, it is the only competition of any level where a cup-runner up never competed.

The 2017 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 38th beginner level competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. It started on 13 May and finished on 27 August, it started a days later than last season. Originally to finish on 15 July, instead, it was rescheduled to 27 August. The championship was governed by the Cape Verdean Football Federation.

The Brava Island Cup is a regional cup competition and is played during the season in the island of Brava, Cape Verde, it consists of all the clubs from all the two regional divisions and are divided into about four to five rounds, for some seasons, a group stage was featured. The cup competition is organized by the Brava Regional Football Association .The cup winner competes in the regional super cup final in the following season when a cup winner also wins the championship, a runner-up competes. The winner qualifies into Cape Verdean Cup, since 2013, it has been canceled due to financial and scheduling reasons. Its last cup winner was Sporting Clube da Brava, the 2016-17 edition was not held.

The 2018 Cape Verdean Football Championship season is the 39th beginner level competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Also it was another season that it was sponsored by a clothing company Tecnicil, it was also known as the 2018 Cape Verdean Tecnicil football season or the 2018 Tecnicil Football Championships. The championship was governed by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. The season began earlier started on 7 April 2018 and finished on 2 June.

The 2010 Cape Verdean Cup season was the 4th competition of the regional football cup in Cape Verde. The season started on 20 July and finished with the cup final on 2 August. The cup competition was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. Boavista Praia won their last of two cup titles. A month later, they would also win a championship title, currently the only club to win both a cup and a championship title.

The 2012 Cape Verdean Cup season was the 5th competition of the regional football cup in Cape Verde. The season started on 11 August and finished with the cup final on 24 August. The cup competition was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. Maio's Onze Unidos won their only title.
