It was his record-extending eighth Italian Open title and his record-extending 32nd Masters title overall. With the win, Nadal also regained the ATP No. 1 singles ranking.

The 2019 Erste Bank Open was a men's tennis tournament played on indoor hard courts. It was the 45th edition of the event, and part of the ATP Tour 500 Series of the 2019 ATP Tour. It was held at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria, from 21 October until 27 October 2019.
Novak Djokovic defeated Milos Raonic in the final, 1–6, 6–3, 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2020 Cincinnati Masters. With the win, he claimed his record-equaling 35th Masters 1000 title, and completed the double career Golden Masters. Djokovic became the first new singles titlist on the ATP Tour since its suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.

It was his record-extending 10th Italian Open title and record-equaling 36th Masters 1000 title overall. Nadal saved two match points en route to the title, in his third round match against Denis Shapovalov. This was also the fourth time that Nadal had won a tournament on 10 or more occasions, making him the only tennis player with the feat.
Taylor Fritz defeated Rafael Nadal in the final, 6–3, 7–6(7–5) to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2022 Indian Wells Masters. It was his maiden Masters 1000 title and second career title overall. Fritz became the first American to win the title since Andre Agassi in 2001, and ended Nadal's 20-match winning streak, dating back to the 2022 Melbourne Open.
