The 2019 Philippine Premier League is the inaugural season of the Philippine Premier League (PPL) and the third consecutive season of top-flight professional football in the Philippines, after the two seasons of the Philippines Football League (PFL). The season was scheduled to start on March 30, but was postponed to April 27 to allow Mendiola and Philippine Air Force to process their respective club licenses. [1] Originally supposed to be a seven-club league, Stallion Laguna and United Makati withdrew from the league on April 26 (a day before the first match day) due to loss of confidence to the league's organizers, leaving the PPL with five clubs.

The Philippine Premier League (PPL) will be the top-flight association football league in the Philippines sanctioned by the Philippine Football Federation. It succeeded the Philippine Football League (PFL) which ran for two seasons. The first PPL season is set to start on April 27, 2019.

Ceres–Negros F.C. association football club

Ceres–Negros Football Club, commonly referred to as Ceres–Negros or just Ceres, is a Filipino football club based in the city of Bacolod, Negros Occidental that plays in the Philippine Premier League. The club is a member of the Negros Occidental Football Association. It was previously known as the Ceres–La Salle Football Club.

The 2018 Philippines Football League was the second season of the Philippines Football League (PFL), the professional football league of the Philippines. Ceres–Negros were the defending champions after beating Global Cebu in the Final.

Green Archers United F.C.

Green Archers United Futbol Club, formerly known as Alabang Grins Futbol Club, is a professional association football club based in Manila, Philippines. The team plays in the Philippine Premier League, the top-flight association football league in the Philippines.

Mendiola and Philippine Air Force were announced as participants for the season by the league organizers but were ruled ineligible to participate due to their licensing issues with the Philippine Football Federation. [3] The league postponed the season's launch to April 27 so that the two clubs can resubmit their documents for licensing. [4]

Philippine Air Force F.C. Filipino association football club

The Philippine Air Force Football Club is a Filipino football club serving under a combination of officers, enlisted personnel and civilians of the Philippine Air Force. The team plays in the Philippine Premier League, the top-flight association football league in the Philippines. Philippine Air Force is affiliated with the Batangas Football Association, the football association of the province of Batangas.

Philippine Football Federation sports governing body

The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) is the governing body of association football in the Philippines. Established as the Philippine Amateur Football Association (PAFA) in 1907, the PFF is one of the oldest national football associations in Asia and is among the founding members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The PAFA reorganized as the Philippine Football Association (PFA), and later as the Philippine Football Federation.

Stallion Laguna and United Makati withdrew from the league a day before the first match day due to loss of confidence to the league's organizers. In a joint conference they stated that the lack of professionalism, transparency and disagreement with the centralized format of the league as their reason for their withdrawal. [5] [6]

Stallion Laguna Football Club is a Filipino professional association football club based in Biñan, Laguna that last played in the Philippine Football League.

United Makati F.C. Filipino association football club

United Makati Football Club is a professional football club based in Makati, Metro Manila, that last played in the Philippine Football League, the top flight of Philippine club football prior to the establishment of the Philippine Premier League. The club has won four league titles, two UFL Cups, one UFL FA Cup, and one PFF National Men's Club Championship. They have also participated in the AFC Cup three times.

Foreign players

A maximum of four foreigners are allowed per club which follows the Asian Football Confederation's (AFC) '3+1 rule'; three players of any nationality and a fourth coming from an AFC member nation.[ citation needed ]

It has 47 member countries, mostly located on the Asian and Australian continent, but excludes the transcontinental countries with territory in both Europe and Asia – Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkey – which are instead members of UEFA. Three other states located geographically along the western fringe of Asia – Cyprus, Armenia and Israel – are also UEFA members. The Copa Paulino Alcantara, also known as the PFL Cup, is an annual association football tournament in Philippines sanctioned by the Philippine Football Federation. The cup's first iteration began on September 1, 2018. It replaced the PFF National Men's Club Championship and the UFL Cup as the country's top domestic cup tournament.
