This was the first Australian Open final in the Open Era to be contested between two players ranked outside the top ten, and the first such major final since the 2018 US Open. Kenin entered the top 10 in rankings for the first time by winning the title.

Serena Williams defeated Jessica Pegula in the final, 6–3, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2020 ASB Classic. It was Williams’ 73rd and last WTA Tour-level singles title, and her first since giving birth to her daughter Olympia. The win made her the first player in the Open Era to win singles titles across four decades.

The 2021 Gippsland Trophy was a tournament on the 2021 WTA Tour. It was played on outdoor hard courts in Melbourne, Australia. It was organised as a lead-up tournament to the 2021 Australian Open, and was held at the same venue, due to other tournaments in Australia being cancelled as a result from the COVID-19 pandemic. This tournament took place simultaneously with the 2021 Yarra Valley Classic and the 2021 Grampians Trophy. Players who had originally intended to participate in this tournament or the Yarra Valley Classic, but were forced to undergo strict quarantine measures upon arrival in Australia, were able to participate in the 2021 Grampians Trophy. The entry list of 2021 Australian Open was used to determine the entry list of this tournament; with half the players playing the Gippsland Trophy, and the other half playing the 2021 Yarra Valley Classic.

The 2021 Phillip Island Trophy is a tournament on the 2021 WTA Tour, one of six events in the 2021 Melbourne Summer Series. It was played on outdoor hard courts in Melbourne, Australia. Leylah Fernandez defeated Viktorija Golubic in the final, 6–1, 6–4 to win the singles tennis title at the 2021 Monterrey Open. Fernandez did not drop a set en route to her first WTA Tour singles title.

Liudmila Samsonova defeated Belinda Bencic in the final, 1–6, 6–1, 6–3, to win the singles tennis title at the 2021 WTA German Open. Samsonova was contesting her first career final on the WTA Tour and had entered the main draw as a qualifier. Her win made her the 10th maiden titlist on the 2021 WTA Tour and the second qualifier of the season to claim a title.

The 2021 Astana Open was a tennis tournament organized for professional tennis players, held in Astana, Kazakhstan, in 2021 on indoor hard courts. It is the second edition of the tournament for the men and the first for the women. She became the fourth woman in history to complete the Sunshine Double in singles, having won Indian Wells two weeks earlier. It was Świątek's first Miami Open title, her third consecutive WTA 1000 title, and her fourth WTA 1000-level title overall. Świątek became the first woman in history to win the first three WTA 1000 titles of the year in succession, the first player since Serena Williams in 2013 to win three consecutive WTA 1000 titles, and extended her winning streak to 17 matches. She lost no sets and just 26 games en route to the title, the fewest since Martina Hingis dropped 21 games in 2000.

Ons Jabeur defeated Jessica Pegula in the final, 7–5, 0–6, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2022 Madrid Open. It was her first WTA 1000 title, and she became the first Arab and African woman to win a WTA 1000 title.

The 2023 Billie Jean King Cup qualifying round is held from 14 to 16 April 2023. The nine winners of this round will qualify for the 2023 Finals while the nine losers will play at the 2023 Play-offs.

Zheng Qinwen defeated Barbora Krejčíková in the final, 2–6, 6–2, 6–4 to win the singles tennis title at the 2023 Zhengzhou Open. It was her first WTA 500 title.
