Local elections in the Indian state of Telangana were held in 2020 for 11 municipal corporations and 120 municipalities. Elections for 9 municipal corporations and 120 municipalities were held on 22 January 2020. [3] Elections for Karimnagar Municipal Corporation were held on 24 January 2022 [4] whereas elections for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation were held on 1 December 2022. [5] [6]

Background

Most previous elections for the urban local bodies were held from 2014-2016. In 2014, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi won 3 municipal corporations and 22 municipalities, followed by the Indian National Congress with 19 municipalities, the Telugu Desam Party with 4 municipalities, the Bharatiya Janata Party with 3 municipalities, and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen with 1 municipality. [7] In 2016, the TRS had swept the GHMC bagging 99 out of 150 wards, a clear two-third majority. [8]

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee or (TPCC) is the state unit of the Indian National Congress (INC) in the state of Telangana, India. The political landscape of Telangana is dominated by the Indian National Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, with the Bharatiya Janata Party and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen being other significant forces.

Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao, commonly known as KTR, is an Indian politician and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Telangana Legislative Assembly. He is a former Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Industries and Commerce, and Information Technology, Electronics and Communications of Telangana. He represents Sircilla assembly constituency in the Telangana Legislative Assembly, he is also the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi.

Santhosh Kumar is a political leader from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and presently a Member of the Parliament of India representing Telangana in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. He won the election on 23 March 2018. He is the Managing Director of Telugu media house, Namasthe Telangana in Telangana, India. He is presently a General Secretary in Telangana Rashtra Samithi. He was running for Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha.

The 2020 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election was conducted on 1 December 2020 to elect members to all 150 wards of the municipal corporation. The BJP made significant inroads into the GHMC, much at the loss of the TRS. After the results were declared, the TRS formed the government with outside support from the AIMIM.

The 2016 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election was conducted on 2 February 2016 to elect members to all 150 wards of the municipal corporation. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi won a landslide victory of 99 wards, followed by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen which received 44 wards. The Indian National Congress, which was the single-largest party in the previous GHMC elections held in 2010, was decimated, winning only 2 wards.


Local elections were held in the Indian state of Telangana on 30 April 2021 for 2 municipal corporations and 5 municipalities, namely Warangal, Khammam, Jadcherla, Achampet, Siddipet, Kothur, and Nakrekal.

Local elections were held in the Indian state of Telangana in 2019 for various rural local bodies including 12,751 gram panchayats, 538 Zilla Parishad territorial constituencies, and 5,817 Mandal Parishad territorial constituencies. Gram panchayat elections were held in January 2019 whereas ZPTC and MPTC elections were held in May 2019.

Local elections were held in the Indian state of Telangana in 2016 for 3 municipal corporations and 3 municipalities. Elections for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation were held on 2 February 2016, Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation, Khammam Municipal Corporation and Achampet Municipality in March 2016, and Siddipet Municipality in April 2016.
