Local elections were held in the Indian state of Telangana on 30 April 2021 for 2 municipal corporations and 5 municipalities, namely Warangal, Khammam, Jadcherla, Achampet, Siddipet, Kothur, and Nakrekal. [1]

The first elections were held in newly-created municipalities Jadcherla, Kothur, and Nakrekal. [2]

Background

In the previous elections (for these urban local bodies) held in 2016, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi swept all 4 urban local bodies (Khammam, Warangal, Achampet, Siddipet) by an impressive margin. The 2016 elections resulted in the washing out of the Telugu Desam Party and the weakening of the Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. [3] [4]

The District Headquarters and police Commissionerate is located at Siddipet City.

Jangaon (Janagama) is a city and the district headquarters of Jangaon district in the Indian state of Telangana. The state of Andhra Pradesh held urban local bodies elections on 30 March 2014. This included 10 Municipal Corporations, and 145 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats. Elections in the remaining bodies were not held due to issues such as court cases, delays in the preparation of electoral rolls, problems in the delimitation of wards, and the creation of new bodies.

Local elections were held in the Indian state of Telangana in 2019 for various rural local bodies including 12,751 gram panchayats, 538 Zilla Parishad territorial constituencies, and 5,817 Mandal Parishad territorial constituencies. Gram panchayat elections were held in January 2019 whereas ZPTC and MPTC elections were held in May 2019.

Local elections were held in the Indian state of Telangana in 2016 for 3 municipal corporations and 3 municipalities. Elections for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation were held on 2 February 2016, Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation, Khammam Municipal Corporation and Achampet Municipality in March 2016, and Siddipet Municipality in April 2016.

Local elections in the Indian state of Telangana were held in 2020 for 11 municipal corporations and 120 municipalities. Elections for 9 municipal corporations and 120 municipalities were held on 22 January 2020. Elections for Karimnagar Municipal Corporation were held on 24 January 2022 whereas elections for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation were held on 1 December 2022.

The Sangareddy Municipality, classified as a first grade municipality with 38 election wards, was created in 1954. It is the urban local body of the town of Sangareddy. The jurisdiction of the civic body is spread over an area of 24.58km2.
