New York Film Festival

The 60th New York Film Festival took place from September 30 to October 16, 2022. [1] The opening and closing films of the festival were Noah Baumbach's absurdist comedy-drama White Noise and Elegance Bratton's drama film The Inspection respectively. Laura Poitras' documentary All the Beauty and the Bloodshed was chosen as the center piece film. James Gray's 75th Cannes Film Festival premiered movie, Armageddon Time , was selected to be the festival's celebration movie for its 60th anniversary. [2] [3] [4]

White Noise also received an identical position the 79th Venice Film Festival. All the Beauty and the Bloodshed was chosen to be NYFF's Centerpiece (the movie also is bound to a Venice World Premiere, a North American premiere at the 49th Telluride Film Festival and a Canadian premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival, making it the only movie of the 2022 season to hit all the major four fall film festivals).

The 50 Year Argument is a documentary film by Martin Scorsese and co-directed by David Tedeschi about the history and influence of the New York Review of Books, which marked its 50th anniversary in 2013. The documentary premiered in June 2014 at the Sheffield Doc/Fest and was soon screened in Oslo and Jerusalem before airing on the British Arena television series in July. It was also screened at the Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival and was seen at the New York Film Festival, in September, and at other film festivals. All the Beauty and the Bloodshed is a 2022 American biographical documentary film about photographer, artist, and activist Nan Goldin. The film is produced, co-edited and directed by Laura Poitras, and tackles Goldin's life through her advocacy during the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 80's, and her fight against the Sackler family for their role in the current opioid epidemic in the United States. Poitras, a long-time friend and fan, stated that "Nan's art and vision has inspired my work for years, and has influenced generations of filmmakers."

<i>No Bears</i> 2022 Iranian film

No Bears is a 2022 Iranian drama film written, directed and produced by Jafar Panahi. The film was shot secretly in Iran and stars Panahi, Naser Hashemi, Vahid Mobasri, Bakhtiar Panjei and Mina Kavani. Production wrapped up in May 2022.

The 49th Telluride Film Festival took place September 2–5, 2022. In June 2022, it was announced that the festival would receive the dissident Russian filmmakers Kantemir Balagov and Kira Kovalenko as Guest Directors "as key collaborators in the Festival's programming decisions, bringing new ideas and overlooked films to Telluride". In July 2022 it was announced that author, artist, graphic novelist and publisher Leanne Shapton would design the annual poster for the 49th edition.
