The 62nd New York Film Festival took place September 27 to October 14, 2024, presented by Film at Lincoln Center.
RaMell Ross' historical drama film Nickel Boys was selected as the "Opening Night Film" for this edition, [1] [2] Pedro Almodóvar's The Room Next Door was chosen as NYFF's "Centerpiece", [3] while Steve McQueen's Blitz was chosen as the "Closing Night Film". [4]

The New York Film Festival (NYFF) is a film festival held every fall in New York City, presented by Film at Lincoln Center. Founded in 1963 by Richard Roud and Amos Vogel with the support of Lincoln Center president William Schuman, it is one of the longest-running and most prestigious film festivals in the United States. It is a non-competitive festival centered on a "Main Slate" of typically 20–30 feature films, with additional sections for experimental cinema and new restorations.
Film at Lincoln Center (FLC), previously known as the Film Society of Lincoln Center (FSLC) until 2019, is a nonprofit organization based in New York City, United States. Founded in 1969 by three Lincoln Center executives—William F. May, Martin E. Segal and Schuyler G. Chapin—the organization presents film festivals, retrospectives, new releases, restorations, and talks. Film at Lincoln Center is one of the eleven resident organizations at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
The Skin I Live In is a 2011 Spanish thriller and melodrama hybrid film written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar, starring Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya, Marisa Paredes, Jan Cornet and Roberto Álamo. Hale County This Morning, This Evening is a 2018 American documentary film about the lives of black people in Hale County, Alabama. It is directed by RaMell Ross and produced by RaMell Ross, Joslyn Barnes, Su Kim, and is Ross's first nonfiction feature. The documentary is the winner of 2018 Sundance Film Festival award for U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Creative Vision, 2018 Gotham Independent Film Award for Best Documentary Feature and the Cinema Eye Honors Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Feature Filmmaking. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. After its theatrical run, it aired on the PBS series Independent Lens and eventually won a 2020 Peabody Award.

The Nickel Boys is a 2019 novel by American novelist Colson Whitehead. It is based on the historic Dozier School, a reform school in Florida that operated for 111 years and was revealed as highly abusive. A university investigation found numerous unmarked graves for unrecorded deaths and a history into the late 20th century of emotional and physical abuse of students.
