Harvest is an upcoming drama film directed by Athina Rachel Tsangari. It is adapted by Joslyn Barnes and Athina Rachel Tsangari from the 2013 book of the same name by Jim Crace. Filming started in 2023 and the cast includes Caleb Landry Jones. It is produced by Rebecca O'Brien for Sixteen Films.

Premise

The film is set in England during the Middle Ages. In a time of economic turmoil local villagers scapegoat three strangers. [1]

Development

Athina Rachel Tsangari was attached to direct the film in November 2020 with the project having a script from Joslyn Barnes adapting the Booker Prize nominated novel by Jim Crace from 2013. [2] Production on the project is by Rebecca O'Brien for Sixteen Films (UK), and Joslyn Barnes for Louverture Films (USA), with co-production from The Match Factory (Germany). [3]

Casting

Caleb Landry Jones is cast in the film. Whilst attending the Venice Film Festival to promote the Luc Besson film Dogman in August 2023, he spoke throughout in a Scottish accent. Besson explained that he was method acting for a new role, which The Hollywood Reporter reported was for Harvest. [4] Jones later confirmed to la Repubblica that this was true. [5] In February 2024, Harry Melling, Rosy McEwen, Arinzé Kene, Thalissa Teixeira, and Frank Dillane were revealed to be cast in the film. [6]

Filming

Principal photography took place in Oban, Scotland in September 2023. Location filming will also reportedly take place Germany. [7]

Distribution

The film has been announced as a special presentation at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. [8] However, it has been listed by TIFF only as a North American premiere, and thus a world premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival is expected. [9] [10]

Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story is a 2023 Nigerian film written by Adaora Sandra Anyanwu and directed by Kayode Kasum. It predominantly tells the story of the Igbo apprenticeship system in Nigeria. The film which was produced by Olawumi Fajemirokun and Kene Egbue is the first ever feature length film on the Igbo apprenticeship system in Nigeria was also largely filmed in Igbo language.
