The 17th The Future Awards Africa (also known as 2022 The Future Awards Africa) released its nominees on Sunday, 24 September 2023. The award is to be hosted by Tayo Faniran and Idia Aisien at Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos. [1]
On 25 September 2023, the organizers of the 17th TFAA's Awards announced Mai Atafo, Oyinkansola Fawehinmi, Latasha Ngwube, Olumide Makanjuola, Adim Isiakpona, Aisha Augie, Mark Okoye, Aisha Yesufu, Dr. Melvis Ndiloseh, Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi, Tolulope Adedeji, Ayo Mairo-Ese, and Oluwasola Obagbemi, as members of its jury. The Future Awards Africa are a set of awards given by The Future Project, a social enterprise communications firm affiliated to Red Africa. The awards are intended to celebrate young people between the ages of 18 and 31, who have made outstanding achievement in the year under consideration. Forbes has described the awards as "Nigeria’s most important awards for outstanding young Nigerians".
Olamide Gbenga Adedeji is a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record executive. He is regarded as one of the most influential artists in Nigeria and has been pivotal to the creative and commercial success of several Afrobeats music stars, and is consistently praised for his role in elevating street pop to mainstream recognition as a distinct music genre. He records in Yoruba and English. In 2011, he released his debut studio album Rapsodi while signed to Coded Tunes. YBNL, his follow-up album, was released under his label imprint "Yahoo Boy No Laptop", aka YBNL Nation. The album was supported by the singles "First of All", "Voice of the Street", "Stupid Love", and "Ilefo Illuminati". On 7 November 2013, he released his third studio album Baddest Guy Ever Liveth. The album's singles include "Durosoke" and "Yemi My Lover". On 17 July 2013, Olamide became the first Nigerian to sign an endorsement deal with Cîroc.
Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, who is better known as Kizz Daniel, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He rose to fame in 2014 with his debut single, "Woju". He signed a record deal with G-Worldwide Entertainment in 2013, but left the label following a publicized contract dispute and court case. He founded the Fly Boy Inc record label in November 2017.
Oluseye Desmond Sodamola, professionally known as Spinall, is a Nigerian disc jockey, record producer, and songwriter. He has released six studio albums and collaborated with artists that have included Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Asake, Joeboy among others. He has won numerous awards for his work, including All Africa Music Awards and The Beatz Awards. He is also the first Nigerian disc jockey to play at festivals such as Coachella, SXSW, and Glastonbury.
Rahama Ibrahim Sadau is a Nigerian actress, filmmaker, and singer. Born and raised in Kaduna, she performed in dancing competitions as a child and during her school years. She rose to fame in late 2013 after joining the Kannywood movie industry with her first movie Gani ga Wane.
Tee-Y Mix is a Nigerian music executive, and board member of Dapper Group. He is widely known for producing Naeto C's major hit "Kini Big Deal", which earned him a nomination at The Headies for Producer of the Year in 2009. He also served as an A&R executive, sound engineer and primary producer, on Naeto C's debut studio album U Know My "P", which was released in 2008. Following his departure from Storm 360, he founded Vivace Records in 2014 and is the Chief Executive Officer.
Chike Ezekpeazu Osebuka, popularly known by his stage Chike, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and actor. Chike gained prominence by participating in the Nigerian reality competition Project Fame West Africa. Additionally, he showcased his talents on The Voice Nigeria, where he achieved the second position during Season 1. Chike ventured into acting by making his debut as Mayowa Badmus on the Africa Magic Showcase telenovela Battleground. He also appeared in the production Gang of Lagos, portraying the character Ify.
Tisan Jeremiah Bako, popularly known as Tisan Bako, is a Nigerian tech and media personality. He is known for hosting the drive time show Powerplay on Raypower 100.5 FM, where he won multiple awards including The Future Awards Africa, Nigeria Entertainment Awards, Nigeria Media Merit award. He was also listed among Avance Media 100 Most influential Nigerians in 2018. He has also worked as a news producer for popular Canadian news stations including CTV News Channel and BNN Bloomberg. Tisan Currently works in the tech industry.
Divine Ikubor, known mononymously as Rema, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and rapper. He gained initial recognition with his 2019 song "Dumebi". That same year, he signed with D'Prince's record label, Jonzing World. He achieved international recognition with his 2022 single "Calm Down", which spawned a remix with American singer Selena Gomez that peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also led Billboard Afrobeats Songs chart for a record-setting 58 weeks.
Lorenzo Menakaya is a Nigerian on-air personality, actor, event host, filmmaker and singer. He received nominations for On-Air Personality (OAP) of the year at The Future Awards Africa (TFAA) 2011 and 2012; and he won the award of Outstanding Radio Presenter at the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards 2016. He also hosted the Africa Movie Academy Awards, 2019.
Tobi Bakre is a Nigerian actor, model, host, compere, and photographer. Tobi rose to fame after finishing up as a finalist in the Big Brother Naija reality TV show in 2018.
ThankGod Omori Jesam known professionally as TG Omori or Boy Director, is a Nigerian music video director and cinematographer.
Samuel Animashaun Perry, known professionally as Broda Shaggi, is a Nigerian comedian, actor, songwriter and musician. He is a two-time Best Actor in a Comedy, Movie or TV Series winner at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards in 2022 and 2023.
Maryam Apaokagi, known professionally as Taaooma, is a Nigerian comedian, content creator, cinematographer, and social media influencer. She currently serves as the CEO, and founder of Chop Tao, a food company, and directs for The Greenade Company, a cinematography firm. She is known for playing multiple roles in her skits.
Aisha Salaudeen is a Nigerian multimedia journalist, feminist, producer, and writer who currently works with the CNN. In November 2020, she was awarded the Future Awards Africa Prize for Journalism for her work covering stories in Africa. She was a guest speaker at the Ake Arts and Book Festival 2020.
Odunayo Eweniyi is a Nigerian business executive and activist. She is the Co-founder and Chief Operations Officer PiggyVest and co-founder of Feminist Coalition.
Oreoluwa Racheal Awolowo popularly known as Nora Awolowo is a Nigerian film director, cinematographer, documentary photographer, producer, and creative director. She was nominated for The Future Awards Africa in Prize for Film category.
Ahmed Ololade, known professionally as Asake, is a Nigerian singer, rapper and songwriter. He is signed to YBNL Nation and Empire Distribution. His stage name "Asake" is his mother's name. thus like to use ololade mi "Asake" before the start of his songs.
Gbemisola Scarlet Gomez professionally known as Scarlet Gomez, is a Nigerian Actress, known for her lead role in the 2023 Showmax Original telenovela-series Wura. In 2012, she won the Miss United Nations Tourism pageant in Kingston, Jamaica.
"Amapiano" is a song by Nigerian musician Asake and Nigerian rapper Olamide. The song is a single from Asake's second studio album, Work of Art, and was produced by Nigerian producer Magicsticks. The music video, shot by Jyde Ajala, was released on 24 May 2023. The song was a surprise release and gained over 100,000 streams within less than 24 hours of its release and debuted at number one of the Spotify Top Songs Nigeria Daily Chart. The song was nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 66th Grammy awards. It was one of the most streamed songs of 2023 on Audiomack, garnering 87.7 million streams on the platform. Former US president Barack Obama listed the song among his favorite music of 2023.
