The 2022 Towson Tigers football team represented Towson University as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) during the 2022 NCAA Division I FCS football season. They were led by 13th-year head coach Rob Ambrose, and played their home games at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Maryland. [1] Ambrose was fired at the end of the season, and replaced with interim head coach Lyndon Johnson. [2]

John Kaleo is a retired American football quarterback in the Arena Football League (AFL) for the Albany Firebirds (1993), Cleveland Thunderbolts (1994), St. Louis Stampede (1995–1996), Anaheim Piranhas (1997), San Jose SaberCats (1997), New England Sea Wolves (1999), Tampa Bay Storm, Austin Wranglers (2004), Los Angeles Avengers (2005), and Columbus Destroyers (2006). He won ArenaBowl XVII with the Storm in 2003. He retired from playing after the 2007 season, and is currently the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Storm. The Towson Tigers, formerly the Towson College Knights, are the athletics teams of Towson University. All of the major athletic teams compete in the Colonial Athletic Association with 19 Division I athletic teams. Gymnastics competes in the EAGL conference, having rejoined the league in the Spring of 2012.

Rob Ambrose is an American college football coach. From 2009 to 2022, he was head coach of the Towson Tigers football team of Towson University. Ambrose was formerly the offensive coordinator of the UConn Huskies before being announced as Towson's head coach in December 2008. Ambrose played wide receiver for Towson in the early 1990s. Ambrose was selected as the Top FCS Coach for the 2011 season. In 2013, Towson advanced to the FCS National Championship Game for the first time in school history. Ambrose played his high school ball at Maryland's Middletown High School.

The Tigers compete in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The Tigers are currently coached by Pete Shinnick. Their home games are played at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Maryland.

Gordy Combs is a former American football coach. He was the head coach of the Towson Tigers football team from 1992 through 2008. He had spent 19 seasons as an assistant coach to Phil Albert at Towson before taking over when Albert retired. Combs was replaced in 2009 by Rob Ambrose. He spent the next four years as a defensive assistant at nearby Johns Hopkins University. He helped the team to the postseason all four years he was there. He retired after 2013 season.

The Tigers were led by third-year head coach Rob Ambrose and played their home games at Johnny Unitas Stadium. They are a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). They finished the season 9–3, 7–1 in CAA play to win the conference championship. They received the CAA's automatic bid into the FCS playoffs where they lost in the second round to Lehigh.

They finished the season 7–4, 6–2 in CAA. Due to Old Dominion being ineligible for the conference title, the Tigers claimed a four way share of the CAA title. Despite the conference title, the Tigers were not invited to the FCS playoffs.

The Tigers received an at-large bid to the FCS Playoffs, where they defeated Fordham, Eastern Illinois, and Eastern Washington to advance to the FCS National Championship game, where they lost to North Dakota State.
