José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera was a Cuban politician. He was the country's Minister of Health from 2004 to 2010. He previously served as the final Cuban ambassador to the Soviet Union.

Agustín Cárdenas Alfonso was a Cuban sculptor who was active in the Surrealist movement in Paris. His sculpture was influenced by Brâncuși, Henry Moore, and Jean Arp. Poet André Breton said of his artistic hand that it was "efficient as a dragonfly."

Lázaro Ramón Gonzalo Naranjo [nah-RAHN-ho] was a Cuban baseball player who was a pitcher in Major League Baseball. Listed at 5 ft 11+12 in (1.82 m), 165 lb (75 kg), he batted left-handed and threw right-handed.

Same-sex marriage has been legal in Cuba since 27 September 2022 after a majority of voters approved the legalization of same-sex marriage in a referendum two days prior. The Constitution of Cuba prohibited same-sex marriage until 2019, and in May 2019 the government announced plans to legalize same-sex marriage. A draft family code containing provisions allowing same-sex couples to marry and adopt was approved by the National Assembly of People's Power on 21 December 2021. The text was under public consultation until 6 June 2022, and was approved by the Assembly on 22 July 2022. The measure was approved by two-thirds of voters in a referendum held on 25 September 2022. President Miguel Díaz-Canel signed the new family code into law on 26 September, and it took effect upon publication in the Official Gazette the following day.

Lorenzo Cabrera, nicknamed "Chiquitín", was a Cuban professional baseball player. He played between 1947 and 1956. Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba on 30 April 1920, Cabrera died in 1999.

Enrico Mario Santí is a Cuban-American writer, poet, and scholar of Spanish American Literature known for his critical essays and annotated editions of Latin American classics, including works by Octavio Paz, Pablo Neruda, and Guillermo Cabrera Infante. A frequent political commentator and art critic, he is also a sculptor and voice actor. As a child, Santí emigrated from Cuba to the United States, where he has had an extensive career as a professor in several universities. Currently, he is a research professor at Claremont Graduate University, in Claremont, California.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Faure Chomón</span> Cuban historian and politician (1929–2019)

Faure Chomón Mediavilla was a Cuban historian and politician. He was one of the founding members and leaders of the Directorio Revolucionario 13 de Marzo. After the triumph of the Revolution he joined Fidel Castro's government. Early in his career, he served as the Secretary of Communication and Transportation and Ambassador to the Soviet Union. Later he served as Ambassador to Vietnam and Ecuador as well as historian of the Revolution. He was also member of the National Assembly of People's Power from 1976 to his death.

Vega Alta is a ward and an urban settlement in Camajuaní, Villa Clara, Cuba. It is in the vicinity of the Sagua la Chica River, and borders the wards of Constancia, Aguada de Moya, Carmita, and Batalla de Santa Clara.

Luis Alberto Rodríguez López-Calleja was a Cuban military general, businessman and politician. He was the head of Cuba's state-run enterprise GAESA and has been described as one of Cuba's most powerful people. A key member of Cuba's Central Committee of the Communist Party, he was once married to Raúl Castro's daughter Deborah. He died on 1 July 2022, of a heart attack.

The Matanzas oil storage facility explosion was an explosion on 5 August 2022 of an oil storage facility in Matanzas, Cuba. It resulted in the death of at least one person, injuring 80 to 125 others, and leaving 17 firefighters missing. The explosion forced the evacuation of 4,900 people from the city, shut the local thermal power station, and sparked fears of an energy crisis in the country.

Aimeé García Marrero is a Cuban painter and mixed media artist. She has exhibited her work internationally and has participated in several art biennials. García Marrero lives in Havana.
