Saint Joseph's University is a private Jesuit university in Philadelphia, Lower Merion Township, Pennsylvania, and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The university was founded by the Society of Jesus in 1851 as Saint Joseph's College. Saint Joseph's is the seventh oldest Jesuit university in the United States and the sixth largest university in Philadelphia. It is named after Saint Joseph. It merged in 2022 with the University of the Sciences. In 2023, Saint Joseph's University announced it would acquire Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences. This will expand Saint Joseph's University by adding a campus in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and expanding the size of the student body especially with students studying nursing and health.
Philip Martelli Sr. is an American college basketball coach, who was recently the associate head coach for the Michigan Wolverines.
The Saint Joseph's Hawks are the athletic teams that represent Saint Joseph's University of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Hawks compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference and of the Philadelphia Big 5. The school also has intramurals and extramurals, the latter of which compete within the City 6. The school is mostly known for its men's basketball team. The Hawk became the school's mascot in 1929. It first flapped its wings at a basketball game in 1956 in a win over La Salle University. The Saint Joseph's school colors are crimson and gray.
Patrick Sean Calathes is a Greek-American former professional basketball player. At a height of 6' 10" tall, he played at both the small forward and power forward positions. He was the 2013 Israeli Basketball Premier League Finals MVP.
The Michael J. Hagan Arena of Saint Joseph's University is SJU's home court for men's and women's basketball. The new arena seats 4,200, which is 1,000 more than the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse seated. A renovation begun in 2023 adds a concourse, larger offices and locker rooms, a Hall of Fame room, study rooms, basketball center, and practice facilities. 700 seats were added to the student section which puts the total at 1,700 and makes this part of the arena even more intimidating for opposing teams.

They finished the season 13–17, 8–8 in A-10 play to finish in a tie for sixth place. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the A-10 women's tournament, where they lost to Dayton.

They finished the season 14–15, 8–8 in A-10 play to finish in a tie for sixth place. They lost in the second round of the A-10 women's tournament to Rhode Island.

The Hawks, led by 23rd-year head coach Phil Martelli, played their home games at Hagan Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Hawks finished the season 16–16, 10–8 in A-10 play to finish in fourth place. The defeated George Mason in the quarterfinals of the A-10 tournament before losing to Rhode Island in the semifinals.

The Hawks, led by seventeenth year head coach Cindy Griffin, played their home games at Hagan Arena and were members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. They finished the season 19–15, 10–6 in A-10 play to finish in a tie for fifth place. They advanced to the championship game of the A-10 women's tournament, where they lost to George Washington. They received an at-large bid to the Women's National Invitation Tournament, where they defeated Seton Hall in the first round before losing to West Virginia in the second round.

They finished the season 14–19 overall, 6–12 in A-10 play to finish in a tie for tenth place. As the No. 10 seed in the A-10 tournament, they advanced to the quarterfinals, where they lost to Davidson.

Marvin O'Connor is an American former professional basketball player. He played high school basketball at Simon Gratz in his native Philadelphia, winning the Philadelphia Public League title as a senior in 1997. After his freshman year in college at Villanova, O'Connor transferred to Saint Joseph's, where he was an all-conference selection in all of his three seasons there, and won the Robert V. Geasey Trophy as the best basketball player in the Philadelphia Big 5 in 2001. He went undrafted in the 2002 NBA draft and spent his only professional season with KK Partizan in Serbia, playing in the 2002–03 Euroleague. He is a member of the St. Joseph's Hawks Hall of Fame and of the Big 5 Hall of Fame (2013).
Ryan Patrick Daly is an American basketball player who last played for the Agua Caliente Clippers of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Delaware Blue Hens and the Saint Joseph's Hawks.

Saint Joseph's secured an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as No. 11 seed in the East region. In the opening round, the Hawks were defeated by Oklahoma to end the season at 21–13.

Under 8th year head coach Phil Martelli, the Hawks held an overall record of 23–7 and a conference record of 12–4. In the A-10 tournament, Saint Joseph's beat La Salle before falling to Dayton in the semifinals. The Hawks earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament – as No. 7 seed in the East region – where they lost in overtime to Auburn in the opening round.
