On May 7, 2023, a Range Rover sport utility vehicle rammed into 18 people in Brownsville, Texas, United States. Eight people were killed, and 10 were injured. [1] Officials say it is unclear whether the crash was intentional. [2]
The crash occurred outside the Ozanam Center, a homeless shelter used by migrants, [3] after the suspect ran a red light near an area where the victims were waiting for a bus. [4] The local police department said that all the victims were male Venezuelan migrants. [5] [4]
George Alvarez, a 34-year-old resident of Brownsville, was arrested and charged with reckless driving, [4] [6] [7] and later with eight counts of manslaughter and ten counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. [5] Bail was set at $3,600,000. [5] Alvarez has an extensive criminal history, including two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, multiple counts of assault causing bodily injury, and one count of driving while intoxicated. [5] On May 11, officials declared that Alvarez had cocaine, benzodiazepines and marijuana in his system at the time of the crash, while they were also waiting for further toxicology results. [8] [9] On June 28, 2024, Alvarez was found guilty of eight counts of intoxication manslaughter and ten counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was sentenced to sixty years in prison. The World Wide Tours bus crash took place at about 5:30 a.m. on March 12, 2011, in the southbound lanes of the New England Thruway segment of Interstate 95 within Pelham Bay Park near Split Rock at the border between the Bronx and Pelham Manor, New York. The bus was returning to Chinatown, Manhattan, from the Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville, Connecticut. It swerved and collided with a metal sign pole, which ripped through it and tore off most of its roof. Thirteen passengers died at the scene, two died at hospitals, and all seventeen others on board were injured.

Ethan Anthony Couch killed four people at the age of 16 while driving under the influence on June 15, 2013, in Burleson, Texas. Couch, while intoxicated and under the influence of drugs, was driving on a restricted license and speeding in a residential area when he lost control of his vehicle, colliding with a group of people assisting another driver with a disabled SUV. Four people were killed in the collision, and nine people were injured. Two passengers in Couch's pickup truck suffered serious injuries, with one passenger suffering complete paralysis.
Nicole Nadra Baukus is an American woman convicted of two counts of vehicular manslaughter stemming from a fatal car collision on June 29, 2012, in which she was driving intoxicated. Baukus pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 38 years in prison with the possibility of parole. Highway surveillance cameras showed Baukus' vehicle traveling on the wrong side of Interstate 45 after she had consumed alcohol at a nearby bar. A later request for a new trial was denied. Baukus attended and graduated from Oak Ridge High School in Conroe, Texas.

Deona Marie Knajdek, a 31-year old American woman, was killed on June 13, 2021, when a man drove a car into a crowd of demonstrators who had gathered as a part of the Uptown Minneapolis unrest. That evening, demonstrators protesting the law enforcement killing of Winston Boogie Smith had blocked the intersection of West Lake Street and Girard Avenue. At approximately 11:39 p.m. CDT, a man in a late-model Jeep Cherokee drove into the crowd at a high speed, striking a parked vehicle that had been used to block off the intersection to traffic, which then collided with protesters, killing Knajdek and injuring three others.
On March 2, 2021, an SUV carrying 25 people collided with a semi-trailer truck in Imperial County, California, U.S., killing 13 people. Investigators said the SUV had entered the United States from Mexico through a hole in a border fence and was smuggling migrants at the time of the crash.
