The 2023 season was Universitario de Deportes' 99th season since its founding in 1924. [2] The club played the Liga 1 and the Copa Sudamericana. [3]

Universitario de Deportes began the season with Carlos Compagnucci as manager, but after poor results in the Liga 1 he was dismissed from his position and the experienced Jorge Fossati came to replace him. [4] [5]
