The 2023 Copa do Brasil (officially the Copa Betano do Brasil 2023 for sponsorship reasons) [1] was the 35th edition of the Copa do Brasil football competition. It was held between 21 February and 24 September 2023. [2]
The competition was contested by 92 teams, either qualified by participating in their respective state championships (70), by the 2023 CBF ranking (10), by the 2022 Copa do Nordeste (1), by the 2022 Copa Verde (1), by the 2022 Série B (1), by the 2022 Série A (1) or those qualified for 2023 Copa Libertadores (8).
In the final, São Paulo defeated the defending champions Flamengo to win their first title. [3] As champions, São Paulo qualified for the 2024 Copa Libertadores group stage and the 2024 Supercopa do Brasil. [4]

The competition is a single-elimination tournament, the first two rounds are played as a single match and the rest are played as a two-legged ties. Twelve teams enter in the third round, which are teams qualified for 2023 Copa Libertadores (8), Série A best team not qualified for 2023 Copa Libertadores, Série B champions, Copa Verde champions and Copa do Nordeste runners-up. The remaining 80 teams play in the first round, the 40 winners play the second round, and the 20 winners play the third round. Finally, the sixteen third round winners advance to the round of 16.

The draw for the first and second rounds was held on 8 February 2023, 14:00 at CBF headquarters in Rio de Janeiro. [8] Teams were seeded by their CBF ranking (shown in parentheses). The 80 qualified teams were divided in eight groups (A-H) with 10 teams each. The matches were drawn from the respective confronts: A vs. E; B vs. F; C vs. G; D vs. H. The lower-ranked teams hosted the first round match.
In the first round, each tie was played on a single-legged basis. The lower-ranked team hosted the match. If tied after 90 minutes, the higher-ranked team would automatically advance to second round. [4]
In the second round, each tie was played on a single-legged basis. If the score was level, the match would go straight to the penalty shoot-out to determine the winners. [4]
The draw for the third round was held on 29 March 2023, 14:00 at CBF headquarters in Rio de Janeiro. [9] In a first draw, the 32 teams, seeded by their CBF ranking, were drawn into 16 ties. The home and away teams of each leg were decided in a second draw. CBF ranking is shown in parentheses.

In the third round, each tie was played on a home-and-away two-legged basis. If the aggregate score was level, the second-leg match would go straight to the penalty shoot-out to determine the winners. [4]

The Copa do Brasil is a knockout football competition played by 92 teams, representing all 26 Brazilian states plus the Federal District. It is the Brazilian domestic cup and it is the Brazilian equivalent of the FA Cup, Taça de Portugal, Copa del Rey, Scottish Cup and Copa Argentina, even though it has much more prestige and it is considered almost as important as the Brazilian League. The Copa do Brasil is an opportunity for teams from smaller states to play against the big teams. The winner of the cup automatically qualifies for the following edition of the Copa Libertadores de América, the most prestigious continental football tournament contested by top clubs in South America organized by CONMEBOL.
The 2014 Copa do Brasil was the 26th edition of the Copa do Brasil football competition. The competition was contested by 87 teams, either qualified through participating their respective state championships (71), by the CBF Rankings (10) or those qualified for 2014 Copa Libertadores (6). Clubs that qualified for the 2014 Copa Libertadores entered the competition in the 4th stage. The seven best teams of the 2013 Brazilian Championship eliminated until the third round qualified for the 2014 Copa Sudamericana.
The 2015 Copa do Brasil was the 27th edition of the Copa do Brasil football competition. The competition was contested by 87 teams, which qualified either by participating in their respective state championships (71), by the CBF Rankings (10), by qualifying for the 2015 Copa Libertadores (5) or having the best 2014 Série A record. The latter 6 clubs entered the competition in the 4th stage. The best six teams of the 2014 Brazilian Championship eliminated until the third round qualified for the 2015 Copa Sudamericana.
