The 2023 Kwibuka Women's T20 Tournament was a Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket tournament that took place in Rwanda from 10 to 17 June 2023. [1] It was the ninth edition of the annual Kwibuka T20 Tournament, [2] which was first played in 2014 in remembrance of the victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. [3]

Contents

Tanzania had won the 2022 tournament, [4] but they did not enter the 2023 tournament, which featured Rwanda, Botswana, Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda. [5]

Nigeria made a good start, winning their first three games to take a surprise lead in the tournament standings. [6] The closely contested round-robin stage ultimately saw the hosts and Nigeria in a race to claim the second spot in the final behind Uganda. [7] [8] [9] Uganda topped the table, winning their first seven round-robin games, before losing a dead-rubber against Nigeria. [10]

Rwanda claimed a surprise 6-wicket victory over Uganda in the final. [11] [12] This was Rwanda's first win against Uganda and the first time that they had won the Kwibuka tournament. [13] [14]

The 2021 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier was a cricket tournament that was played in Botswana in September 2021. The matches were played as Twenty20 International (T20I) matches, with the top team progressing to the 2022 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament. The participating teams were the hosts Uganda, along with Kenya and Nigeria. The tournament was originally planned to consist of 13 T20I matches, with the sides facing each other four times in a round-robin stage, followed by a final between the top two teams. The round-robin was later reduced by three matches with each team facing each other three times. The tournament provided preparation for all sides ahead of T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier events took place in October and November 2021.

The 2022 Kwibuka Women's T20 Tournament was a women's T20I (WT20I) cricket tournament that was held in Rwanda from 9 to 18 June 2022. The five-team tournament was contested by hosts Uganda, as well as Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and United Arab Emirates. The tournament was played at the United Ground in Windhoek. The participating teams were the women's national sides of Namibia, Hong Kong, Uganda and United Arab Emirates. Uganda replaced United States who withdrew from the tournament.

The 2023 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier is a cricket tournament that forms part of the qualification process for the 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup. The first stage of the tournament was Division Two, which featured eight teams and was held in Botswana in September 2023. The top two sides in Division Two advanced to Division One,which featured six seeded teams and will be played in Uganda in December 2023. The 2023 Continent Cup T20 Africa was a men's Twenty20 Intertnational (T20I) cricket tournament that was played in Nairobi, Kenya, in June 2023. The tournament was to be contested as a single round-robin followed by semi-finals and a final, but this was changed to a double round-robin and a final after the withdrawal of Nigeria, and later to a triple round-robin and final after the withdrawal of Tanzania. All of the matches were played at the Gymkhana Club Ground.

The 2023 East Africa T20 Cup was a Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket tournament that took place in Rwanda in August 2023. The venue for the series was the Gahanga International Cricket Stadium in Kigali.
