The Afghanistan cricket team toured Bangladesh in June and July 2023 to play one Test, three One Day International (ODI) and two Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. [1] The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed this FTP tour in their press release. [2]

Initially, Afghanistan were scheduled to play two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is in the series. [3] However, on 11 May 2023, a Test and a T20I was dropped from the itinerary, due to scheduling problems. [4] On 17 May 2023, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the dates and venues for the series. [5] [6] [7]

Bangladesh won the only Test by 546 runs. [8] It was the biggest Test victory for Bangladesh in terms of runs. [9] It was also the biggest Test win for any team, in terms of runs, in the 21st century. [10]

Afghanistan won the first ODI match by 17 runs according to the DLS method after the match was interrupted due to rain. [11] A day after the match, Bangladesh's ODI captain Tamim Iqbal announced his retirement from international cricket, [12] and Litton Das was named as the stand-in captain for the final two ODI matches. [13] In the 2nd ODI, Afghanistan won by 142 runs courtesy of a record-breaking opening partnership, helping them to seal their first ever ODI series win against Bangladesh. [14] Bangladesh went on to win the third ODI by a comprehensive margin of 7 wickets with 159 balls to spare and eventually lost the series by 2–1 margin. [15]

Bangladesh won the first T20I by 2 wickets in a thrilling way, chasing 154, which was their highest successful run chase against Afghanistan in T20I. [16] Bangladesh also won the 2nd T20I by 6 wickets and won the series by 2–0 margin, their first ever T20I series win against Afghanistan. [17]

Afghanistan named Azmatullah Omarzai, Sayed Shirzad, Noor Ali Zadran and Zia-ur-Rehman as reserves in their Test squad. [24]

Ahead of the Test match, Tamim Iqbal was ruled out of the match with a lower back pain. [25] [26] After Tamim Iqbal retired from international cricket during the ODI series, Rony Talukdar was added as a replacement in Bangladesh's ODI squad for the remaining two ODIs. [27]

Naveen-ul-Haq was ruled out of the T20I series with a knee injury, and Nijat Masood was named as his replacement. [28] Ebadot Hossain too was ruled out of Bangladesh's T20I squad due to a knee injury. [29]

The Bangladesh men's national cricket team, popularly known as The Tigers, is administered by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). It is a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with Test, One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) status. Located 10 kilometres from Mirpur city centre, the ground holds approximately 25,000 people and is named after the Bengali statesman A. K. Fazlul Huq, who was accorded the title Sher-e-Bangla.

Tamim Iqbal Khan, more popularly known as Tamim Iqbal, is a Bangladeshi cricketer from Chittagong who was captain of the national team in ODI matches from 2020 to 2023. Considered as the greatest Bangladeshi batsman, he made history as he was the first Bangladeshi in the history of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup to score a century which he did with his 103 not out against Oman in the 2016 tournament. His 103 not out is the highest score made by a Bangladeshi at any T20 World Cup tournaments. Tamim's 128 which he made against England in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy is also the highest score made by a Bangladeshi at any tournaments. He is starting his commentator career on 6 December 2023, Bangladesh vs New Zealand 2nd Test match.

Mohammad Nabi Eisakhil is an Afghan cricketer and former captain of the Afghanistan national cricket team. Nabi is an attacking batting all-rounder, playing as a right-handed batsman and off-break bowler.

Najibullah Zadran is an Afghan cricketer and the vice captain of the Afghanistan Twenty20 International (T20I) side. Zadran is a left-handed batsman who bowls right-arm off breaks. He made his international debut in July 2012.

Liton Kumar Das,(Bengali: লিটন কুমার দাস; born October 13, 1994) is a Bangladeshi cricketer and the current vice-captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team in all formats. He is a right-handed batter and a wicket-keeper. He made his international debut for Bangladesh in June 2015. He has scored the highest individual score for Bangladesh in ODI cricket (176).

The Afghanistan cricket team toured Bangladesh in September and October 2016 to play three One Day Internationals (ODIs) matches. This was Afghanistan's first full series against a Test-playing side other than Zimbabwe and was the first bilateral series between the two sides. It was also Bangladesh's first home bilateral ODI series against an Associate Nation since Ireland toured in 2008. Ahead of the ODI series there was a fifty-over warm-up game between the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI and Afghanistan in Fatullah.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman Zadran is an Afghan cricketer, who plays for the Afghanistan national cricket team. Two months after his international debut, at the age of 16 years and 325 days, he became the youngest player to take a five-wicket haul in a One Day International. He was one of the eleven cricketers to play in Afghanistan's first Test match, against India, in June 2018. Afghanistan lost the one-sided Test within two days. Mujeeb scored 15 and 3 in the two innings, respectively, and got one wicket after conceding 75 runs. It was also Mujeeb's first-class cricket debut. His uncle, Noor Ali Zadran, is also an Afghan international cricketer.

Nijat Masood is an Afghan cricketer. He made his international debut for the Afghanistan cricket team in June 2022.

The Bangladesh cricket team toured India to play three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) against the Afghanistan cricket team in Dehradun.

The Ireland cricket team toured India in February and March 2019 to play three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and a Test match against the Afghanistan cricket team. It was Ireland's first Test played overseas and the first Test match between the two sides. All of the fixtures took place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun. The ODI fixtures were part of Afghanistan's preparation for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. In January 2019, the fixtures were brought forward by two days, to avoid clashing with the Indian Premier League.

The Afghanistan cricket team played the West Indies cricket team in India in November and December 2019 to play one Test, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. It was the first Test match that Afghanistan played against the West Indies. The two teams had played each other ten times before, with the majority of matches in the Caribbean, with this being Afghanistan's fourth Test match. All the matches were played at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

The Zimbabwe cricket team toured Bangladesh in February and March 2020 to play one Test match, three One Day International (ODI) and two Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. On 26 January 2020, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the itinerary for the tour. It was the first time that a tour between the two sides featured a one-off Test match. Zimbabwe last toured Bangladesh in October and November 2018, and last won a series in the country during their tour in November 2001. On 9 February, the BCB moved the three ODI matches from Chittagong to the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, to give the venue more exposure and international attention. The one-off Test match was the 100th international match to be played between the two sides.

The Afghanistan cricket team toured Zimbabwe in June 2022 to play three One Day International (ODI) matches and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The ODI series formed part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. In April 2022, Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed the fixtures for the tour. The following month, the tour itinerary was changed slightly, bringing the matches forward by one week and reducing the number of T20Is from five to three.

Prior to the series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) named Nurul Hasan as their T20I captain for the tour, after Mahmudullah lacked performance and results. However, Nurul suffered a finger injury during the second T20I match and was ruled out of the rest of the tour. The BCB named Mosaddek Hossain as the team's captain for the third T20I match.

The Ireland men's cricket team toured Bangladesh in March and April 2023 to play one Test, three One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches.
