The 2023 South Australian National Football League season (officially the SANFL Hostplus League) was the 144th season of the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), the highest-level Australian rules football competition in South Australia. The season commenced on 31 March and concluded with the Grand Final on 24 September. [3] [4]

The Glenelg Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers or the Bays, is an Australian rules football team which plays in the South Australian National Football League. Their home ground is Stratarama Stadium, located in the southern coastal suburb of Glenelg East, South Australia.
The Jack Oatey Medal is awarded to the best player during the SANFL Grand Final. It has been awarded since 1981. In 2018, Mitch Grigg of Norwood became the first player to win the Jack Oatey Medal on a losing team, after his team were defeated by North Adelaide in the 2018 SANFL Grand Final.
Brett William Backwell is a former Australian rules football player who achieved some international notoriety in 2005 when he had a finger amputated to enable him to continue his chosen sport. Backwell played for Carlton in the Australian Football League (AFL) from 1999 to 2001, and won the J. J. Liston Trophy in 2001 and the Magarey Medal in 2006.

Lachlan Oliver Neale is an Australian rules footballer and the co-captain of the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played for the Fremantle Football Club from 2012 to 2018 before being traded to the Brisbane Lions in 2019, where he won the Brownlow Medal in both 2020 and 2023.
Jordan Murdoch is a former professional Australian rules football player, who played for the Gold Coast Football Club and the Geelong Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He made his South Australian National Football League (SANFL) senior debut for the Glenelg Football Club in round 21 of the 2011 SANFL season, against West Adelaide. He was then drafted into the AFL by the Geelong Football Club with the 48th selection in the 2011 AFL Draft. Murdoch made his AFL debut in July 2012 against Port Adelaide.

The match was contested by Glenelg and Sturt, and the Glenelg Tigers won by 24 points to win their sixth premiership.
