Norwood vs Adelaide was played on Hotham's ground (from Adelaide and Suburban Association) - located north of the Botanic Park, between the Frome and Hackney roads. For the first time for several years past a senior association football match was played on an outside ground. This was rendered necessary by the exclusion of the clubs from the Adelaide and Kensington ovals, in consequence of the unfortunate dispute which has arisen between them and the custodians of the grounds mentioned respecting the percentage of the gate money each is entitled to. The Adelaide Glaciarium, located at 89–91 Hindley Street in the city of Adelaide, South Australia, was the first indoor ice-skating facility built in Australia. It is also the location of the first "hockey on the ice" match in the country, which was an adaptation of roller polo for the ice using ice skates. Contemporary ice hockey was never played at this venue but this ice skating rink, the country's first, provided the "test bed" facility for its successor, the Melbourne Glaciarium, the birthplace of ice hockey in Australia.
The District Council of Birkenhead was a local government area in South Australia centred on the suburb of Birkenhead. It was gazetted on 22 February 1877 from areas formerly part of the District Council of Lefevre's Peninsula. The council chambers were based out of the Birkenhead Hotel. It absorbed the remainder of the Lefevre's Peninsula council, which had been severely reduced in size by the creation of the Corporate Town of Semaphore, on 7 August 1884. It ceased to exist when it merged with the Corporate Town of Port Adelaide on 7 December 1886 as the Birkenhead Ward, a move supported by the council and the local population.
The 1875 South Australian football season was the thirteenth year of interclub football in South Australia.
