The 2024 Action Gatineau leadership election was to take place on April 15, 2024, [1] [2] [3] to elect a leader to replace Maude Marquis-Bissonnette, who resigned on December 22, 2021, [4] after the 2021 Gatineau municipal election, which, despite the party gaining a seat on city council by winning the newly-created district of Mitigomijokan, saw Marquis-Bissonnette lose the mayoralty to France Bélisle. [5]

Maude Marquis-Bissonnette

Maude Marquis-Bissonnette was the runner-up in the 2021 Gatineau municipal election who was the party's leader until she resigned following her loss. She was the city councillor for Plateau District from 2017–2021. After leaving politics, she became an associate professor at the École nationale d’administration publique. [12] [13] [14]

The Gatineau City Council is the governing body for the mayor–council government in the city of Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. It is composed of 19 city councillors and the mayor. The mayor is elected at large, while each councillor represents wards throughout the city. Council members are elected to four-year terms, with the last election being on November 7, 2021. The council meets at the Maison du Citoyen in the Hull sector. Much of the council's work is done in the standing committees made up of sub-groups of councillors. The Quebec City mosque shooting was an attack by a single gunman on the evening of January 29, 2017, at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec City, a mosque in the Sainte-Foy neighbourhood of Quebec City, Canada. Six worshippers were killed and five others seriously injured after evening prayers when the gunman entered the prayer hall shortly before 8:00 pm and opened fire for about two minutes with a 9mm Glock pistol. Approximately 40 people were reported present at the time of the shooting.

Municipal elections were held in the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada on November 5, 2017 as part of the 2017 Quebec municipal elections. Voters elected 65 positions on the Montreal City Council, including the mayor, borough mayors, and city councillors, as well as 38 borough councillors.

The Gatineau LRT is a planned 26 km (16 mi) light rail system proposed by the Ville de Gatineau to be located in Gatineau, Quebec as well as Ottawa, Ontario. The system will be operated by Société de transport de l'Outaouais (STO), Gatineau's public transportation service. The system is planned to begin operation in 2032. Preliminary estimates put the cost of the project at CA$2.1 billion, though this estimate does not include the Ottawa portion. More recent estimates are upwards of $3.5 billion. The Ville de Gatineau is looking to the Government of Quebec to fund 60 percent of the project and for the Canadian federal government to fund 40 percent of the project.

The 2025 Quebec Liberal Party leadership election will be held in spring 2025 to elect a new leader to replace Dominique Anglade, who announced her resignation on November 7, 2022 amid mounting criticism within the party for her performance in the 2022 Quebec general election and for her subsequent decision to remove Liberal MNA Marie-Claude Nichols from caucus. Anglade had led the party to losses in the election held a month earlier, finishing with only 21 seats and 14% of the popular vote, their lowest seat count since 1956 and their lowest share of the popular vote in their history; while the party remained the official opposition, they fell behind the governing Coalition Avenir Québec and opposition Parti Québécois and Québec solidaire to place fourth in the popular vote.
