The airline was originally set up by the government as DTA – Divisão dos Transportes Aéreos in 1938, rechristened TAAG Angola Airlines in 1973, and gained flag carrier status in 1975. It is now a member of both the International Air Transport Association and the African Airlines Association.

The club won its first title in football, the Angolan League, in 1979. and in basketball in 1980. Handball and Volleyball have also won many titles to the club.

Ângelo Monteiro dos Santos Victoriano was an Angolan basketball player. He was listed at 6 ft 6 in and 247 lbs.. Victoriano was inducted to the FIBA Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023 as the second Angolan player in history. Victoriano holds the record for most FIBA AfroBasket titles in history with eight titles, and in his club career in Angola he won eleven national championships and ten national cups.

Football is the most popular sport in Angola, The national team (m) qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany and many Angolan footballers play internationally, particularly in Portugal and France.

Mouloukou Souleyman Diabate, commonly known as Solo Diabate, is an Ivorian basketball player for Petro de Luanda of the Unitel Basket and the Basketball Africa League (BAL). After playing a decade in France and some years in North Macedonia, China and Slovakia, Diabate began his career at the African continent in 2021. He is a two-time BAL champion, with Zamalek in 2021 and US Monastir in 2022.

Additionally, the club plays at the continental level, at the Basketball Africa League (BAL), which they have won in 2024.

Atlético Petróleos de Luanda is an Angolan multisports club based in Luanda. Undoubtedly, the women's handball team of Petro Atlético has been the most successful team in Africa for many years.

Childe Madaleno Fortuna Dundão is an Angolan basketball player who plays for Petro de Luanda of the Angolan Basketball League and the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Standing at 1.67 m, he plays as point guard.

Petro de Luanda plays the 2023–24 season in the Angolan Basketball League and the Basketball Africa League (BAL), as well as in two national cup competitions. This season saw Petro win their first BAL championship.
