The 2024 BNL season is the 11th season of the Basketball National League (BNL), the top-flight basketball league in South Africa. The season began on June 22, 2024, and will end with the championship game on October 20, 2024.

The Cape Town Tigers were the defending champions, but are unable to defend their title as they withdrew from the league.

Team changes

The league existed out of 11 teams. The BNL decided to enforce a promotion and relegation system and as such the last-ranked Eastern Cape Windbreakers were not part of the league this season, and MBB from Johannesburg joined the league. The defending champions Cape Town Tigers withdrew from the league, citing budgetary constraints. [1]

The South African National Basketball Club Championship is the national championship for premier basketball teams in South Africa. The winner of the national championship qualifies for the qualifying tournaments of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The privately-organised Basketball National League (BNL) is considered the de facto top level basketball league in the country, and has had a representative in some seasons.

The qualification for the 2023 BAL season, also known as Road to BAL 2023, was the 3rd edition of the qualifying tournaments for the Basketball Africa League. The tournaments were organised by FIBA Africa and are held from 10 October to 27 November 2022. The format was similar to the previous two seasons, with a group phase and an elite 16 being held.

Nkosinathi Sandile Sibanyoni is a South African professional basketball player for Urunani of the Burundian Basketball Championship, as well as for the Cape Town Tigers of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and Basketball National League (BNL). Standing at 2.08 m, he plays as center and has also played for the South Africa national team. Sibanyoni has been a key part of the Tigers in their BAL seasons and holds the record for most rebounds in a BAL game. He is nicknamed "Nahi".
