The 2024 Rwanda Basketball Cup was the inaugural season of the Rwanda Basketball Cup, the cup competition for men's teams in Rwanda. It is organised by FERWABA, the national basketball association. The first games were played on 26 April 2024, [1] while the playoffs began on 9 July 2024, and ended end on 9 August 2024. [2] [3]

Contents

The first season consisted of 21 teams from the Rwanda Basketball League as well as the Rwanda Basketball League Division 2. [3] The first four teams from the 2023 RBL season received direct qualification for the quarterfinals, while the other teams entered the group phase.

APR won the inaugural cup title after defeating REG in the final. [4] The winners qualified for the inaugural Rwanda Basketball Supercup, which will be held later in the year. [3] The winners were also eligible for the East Africa Cup, a FIBA-organised competition that is yet to be announced. [5]

Group phase

The competition began with a group phase in which all teams played each other once. The top placed teams from each group advance to the quarterfinals of the playoffs.

The 2024 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 4, was the 4th season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 9 March 2024 and ended with the final on 1 June 2024, which was played in the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda for a fourth consecutive season.

The 2023 RBL season was the second season of the Rwanda Basketball League under its current name, while the top-level competition has been organised by the FERWABA for a longer time. The season began on 12 January 2023 with the regular season. The playoffs began on 23 August and ended on 9 September 2023.

The Rwanda Women's Basketball League is the top level women's basketball in Rwanda. It is organised by the FERWABA, the national basketball federation.

In the 2024 season for APR played internationally in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and domestically in the Rwanda Basketball League (RBL). The team played in the BAL following their championship in the 2023 season, that ended a 14-year title drought for APR.

Odile Tetero is a Rwandan basketball player who plays for the Rwandan women's Basketball National Team. She was named the Most Valuable Player in the 2022/2023 Rwanda Basketball League (RBL) playoffs. She has earned recognition as one of the best point guards in Rwandan basketball.

Kepler Basketball Club is a Rwandan semi-professional basketball team based in Kigali that is managed by the non-profit educational institution Kepler. Their men's team plays in the Rwanda Basketball League (RBL) since the 2024 season.

The Rwanda Basketball Cup is a basketball cup competition for men's teams in Rwanda. The competition is made up of teams from the Rwanda Basketball League as well as the Rwanda Basketball League Division 2. The tournament was introduced in 2024 by the FERWABA, and APR was the inaugural winner.
