The 2024 Penn State Nittany Lions women's volleyball team represents the Pennsylvania State University in the 2024 NCAA Division I women's volleyball season. The Penn State Nittany Lions women's volleyball team, led by 3rd year head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley, play their home games at Rec Hall. The Nittany Lions are members of the Big Ten.

Season recap

In 2024, Schumacher-Cawley led the team to its best season in seven years, going 29–2 in regular season play and won a share of the Big Ten title after defeating Nebraska in its final conference match. It was the program's 18th Big Ten title overall, and first since 2017. [1] She was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for her efforts. She also coached several players who were recognized with conference awards: Izzy Starck (Freshman of the Year, First Team All-Big Ten, All-Freshman Team), Jess Mruzik (Unanimous First Team All-Big Ten), Camryn Hannah (First Team), Taylor Trammel (First Team), Gillian Grimes (Second Team), Caroline Jurevicius (All-Freshman Team), and Ava Falduto (Sportsmanship Award). [2]

Penn State won its 8th NCAA national championship, after defeating Delaware State, North Carolina, Marquette, Creighton, Nebraska, and Louisville. It was the program's 11th championship appearance in program history, and first since their last win in 2014.

The 2024 team did not have any pure outgoing transfers. Senior middle blocker Allie Holland and senior libero Maddy Bilinovic both graduated from Penn State and opted to play their fifth year of eligibility (granted by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 Pandemic) at College of Charleston and Creighton, respectively.

Big Ten volleyball is made up of the women's volleyball programs from the Big Ten's 18 member universities. Through 2021, the Big Ten has earned a combined 36 NCAA national semifinal appearances by eight different teams. In 1987, Illinois became the first Big Ten program to make an appearance in the national semifinal. In 1999 Penn State won the conference's first national championship, and they have won seven overall, including a record four consecutive titles from 2007 to 2010. Megan Hodge Easy is an American indoor volleyball player who won a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics with the US team and played for Pennsylvania State University's volleyball team. Following college, also played professionally in Puerto Rico, Italy, Poland, Azerbaijan, China, and Brazil. In 2023, Hodge returned to Penn State Volleyball as assistant coach. In 2024, she helped lead the team to the NCAA women's volleyball championship, where it won its eighth national title in program history.

Harmotto won gold with the national team at the 2014 World Championship, silver at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, and bronze at the 2015 World Cup and 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The Nebraska–Penn State volleyball rivalry is a college women's volleyball rivalry between the Cornhuskers of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and the Nittany Lions of Pennsylvania State University. Prior to 2011, the teams competed frequently as out-of-conference opponents and met nine times in the NCAA tournament. It was the 44th edition of the tournament. It began on December 5, 2024, in various college campuses across the country, location determinations were chosen based on participating teams seedings. The tournament concluded with the championship game at KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky on December 22, 2024.

The 2024 Penn State Nittany Lions women's soccer team represents Pennsylvania State University during the 2024 NCAA Division I women's soccer season and the 2024 Big Ten Conference women's soccer season. It is the program's 31st season fielding a women's varsity soccer team and their 31st season in the Big Ten Conference. The 2024 season is Erica Dambach's 18th year as head coach.

Jessica Ann Mruzik is an American professional volleyball player for LOVB Houston. She played college volleyball for the Michigan Wolverines and the Penn State Nittany Lions, which she led to the 2024 national championship. She was named first-team All-Big Ten four times and first-team AVCA All-American in her championship season.
