The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) is a decentralised militant group in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. MEND's actions – including sabotage, theft, property destruction, guerrilla warfare, and kidnapping – are part of the broader conflict in the Niger Delta and reduced Nigeria's oil production by 33% between 2006-07.

Cyclonic Storm Keila was the first named storm of the 2011 North Indian Ocean cyclone season. A weak system for much of its duration, Keila developed in the western Arabian Sea in late October 2011, amid an area of marginally favorable conditions. On November 2, it briefly organized enough to be classified as a cyclonic storm, which has maximum sustained winds of at least 65 km/h (40 mph). Given the name Keila by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the storm quickly moved ashore southern Oman near Salalah, and weakened while meandering over the country. The remnants soon after moved offshore, dissipating on November 4.

The Islamic State–Taliban conflict is an ongoing insurgency by the Islamic State Khorasan Province (IS-KP) against the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. The conflict initially began when both operated as rival insurgent groups in Nangarhar; since the formation of the Taliban's state in 2021, IS-KP members have enacted a campaign of terrorism targeting both civilians and assassinating Taliban members using hit-and-run tactics. The group have also caused incidents and attacks across the border in Pakistan.

The 2024 Hockey5s World Cup was the first edition of the FIH Men's Hockey5s World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for men's national hockey5s teams. The event was organized by the FIH. It was held from 27 to 30 January 2024, in Muscat, Oman.

On 29 July 2021, the oil tanker MT Mercer Street, travelling from Tanzania to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with no cargo on board, was attacked off the coast of Oman. The ship is flagged in Liberia. It is Japanese-owned and managed by Israeli-owned Zodiac Maritime, an international ship management company headquartered in London and led by billionaire shipping magnate Eyal Ofer, who is an Israeli citizen.

Mumtaz Khan is an Indian women's field hockey player from Uttar Pradesh. She plays as a forward. She made her senior India debut at the FIH pro-league at Bhubaneswar. She plays for Indian Oil Corporation Limited in the domestic tournaments.

Ajmina Kujur is an Indian field hockey player from Odisha. She plays as a midfielder. She plays for Indian Oil Corporation in the domestic tournaments and for the India hockey team in Hockey5s team.

On 15 July 2024, a mass shooting occurred at the Shia Imam Ali mosque in Muscat, Oman, leaving six people dead and between 30 to 50 others injured. All three perpetrators of the attack were killed by the security forces. The Islamic State claimed responsibility, making it the group's first attack in the country.
