The Container ship fire in coast of Kerala occurred after the Singapore-flagged cargo ship vessel MV Wan Hai 503 was capsized on coast of Kerala (Arabian Sea) off Kerala. On 9 June 2025, The Kerala [2] government and the Indian Coast Guard promptly responded to the situation. [3] [4]
The vessels involved were the Singapore-registered container ship MV Wan Hai 503. [5]
On 9 June 2025, The 268-metre (879 ft) Singapore container ship MV Wan Hai 503 caught fire 78 nautical miles off the port of Beypore in the Kerala coastal area of India. It was carrying 22 crew members - four of whom are missing. The explosion immediately caused the heavy containers to burst and the ship to catch fire. The ship is carrying 2,128 metric tonnes of fuel and hundreds of containers. [6] [7] [8]
After the incident, the Indian Coast Guard launched a rescue operation and worked to extinguish the fire. [9]
