The 2028 European Men's Handball Championship bidding process entails the bids for the 2028 European Men's Handball Championship. The winners were Spain, Portugal and Switzerland.

On 11 May 2021 it was announced that the following nations sent in an official expression of interest: [2]
On 20 October the final bids were presented. The Scandinavian bid was withdrawn and the two others were joined. [3]
Spain and Portugal originally submitted a joint bid together and was named as one of the three bids vying for the championships. On 20 October 2021, Switzerland merged their solo bid with Spain and Portugal to become a triple bid. [4] [5]

The Scandinavians decided to all bid for an EHF Euro together for the first time ever, under the slogan Scandinavia Connect. Their bids' aim is to use innovation and modern-day technologies to help Handball have a bright future. [6] [7]
The Swedish Handball Federation president, Frederik Rapp, stated “the commitment to finding sustainable solutions across all industries and areas of life is very clear in all of Scandinavia. To connect the Scandinavian approach and experience in sustainability with European handball is so valuable. Finding more sustainable solutions for future events could be a real game-changer for the future of our sport”.
While the Danish counterpart, Per Bertelsen said “We believe we can build on the positive momentum we see in our sport. Together, we can deliver a world-class event that will be a true celebration for European handball”.
The main round would be held in Malmö and either Copenhagen or Herning. [8] The final weekend would have been in the Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning. Every other venue will host preliminary round matches. [4]
However, they withdrew their 2028 bid to focus on their 2026 application, and ended up winning the hosting rights for 2026 unopposed. [4]

The news of the bid started on 30 October 2020, when both federations signed an organisation deal. [12] On November 11, 2020, the Spanish and Portuguese Handball federations confirmed that they would team up to try and co-host EHF Euro 2028. [13] with matches in Lisbon, Madrid, Malaga, Ourense and Valencia. The Main Round groups would've been in Lisbon and Madrid, with the latter hosting the final weekend. [14] Although, three of Spain's venues were deemed not suitable for the championship. [11] Their slogan is We play under one anthem. [15] [16] Their bid as a duo ended since Switzerland joined their bid.

Before joining up with Spain and Portugal, Switzerland submitted a solo bid, under the slogan New heights For Handball. [17] The preliminary round would be in Basel, Lausanne and Zürich, while the main round groups would be in Lausanne and Zürich. The final weekend would be held in Geneva. [18] Every venue met the EHF's requirements. [11] The Swiss' solo bid ended since Switzerland joined the Spain and Portugal bid.

In August 2020, France and Switzerland first stated an interest to applied to be the hosts of the 2026 and 2028 European Men's Handball Championship. [19] [20] While later, in October 2020, the French Handball Federation officially announced their intent to submit a joint bid with Switzerland. [21] However, the bid quietly failed to materialise and Switzerland applied as a solo bid.

As only the Spain/Portugal/Switzerland bid was remaining it was unanimously selected at the 14th EHF Extraordinary Congress on 20 November 2021. [24] [25]

The 2014 EHF European Men's Handball Championship was the 11th edition of the tournament and held in Denmark from 12–26 January.
The 2014 European Women's Handball Championship was the eleventh continental tournament for women's national teams, organized by the European Handball Federation. The second jointly hosted edition in the competition's history took place in Hungary and Croatia from 7 to 21 December 2014.
The 2018 EHF European Men's Handball Championship was the 14th edition of the tournament, hosted for the second time in Croatia from 12 to 28 January 2018. Croatia was awarded hosting the tournament during the EHF congress in Dublin on 20 September 2014. This was the last edition to feature 16 teams, with the 2020 edition expanding to 24 teams and six preliminary groups format.
The 2020 European Women's Handball Championship was held from 3 to 20 December 2020. The games were played in Herning and Kolding, Denmark.
The 2022 EHF European Men's Handball Championship was the 15th edition of the tournament and the second to feature 24 national teams. It was co-hosted in two countries – Hungary and Slovakia – from 13 to 30 January 2022. It was won by Sweden.
The 2024 EHF European Men's Handball Championship was the 16th edition of the tournament and the third to feature 24 national teams. It was hosted in Germany from 10 to 28 January 2024.
The 2022 European Women's Handball Championship was held in Slovenia, North Macedonia and Montenegro from 4 to 20 November 2022. The tournament was advanced a month in order not to coincide with the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. This tournament was the last to feature 16 teams that had been the case since 2002.
The 2024 European Women's Handball Championship will be held in Austria, Hungary and Switzerland from 28 November to 15 December 2024. This will be the first tournament to feature 24 teams. Norway are the two time defending champions.
The 2026 EHF European Men's Handball Championship, commonly referred to as the EHF Euro 2026, will be the 17th edition of the EHF European Men's Handball Championship, the biennial international men's handball championship of Europe organized by EHF.
