The 20th Irish Film & Television Academy Awards , also called the IFTA Film & Drama Awards 2024 or the 21st Anniversary IFTA Awards, [lower-alpha 1] took place on 20 April 2024. [2] [3] [4] The ceremony was hosted by Baz Ashmawy at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre. [1] It honoured Irish films and television drama released between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2023. [5] The nominations were announced on 14 March 2024. [1] [6] [7] [8] The Rising Star nominees were announced on 9 April 2024. [9]

After the nominations were announced, Academy CEO Áine Moriarty said: "What an incredible showcase of nominees shortlisted for Irish Academy Awards this year. Irish talents are proving themselves to be amongst the best in the world, both in front and behind the camera, delivering such high standards of acting, filmmaking, and storytelling. We in the Irish Academy, are proud to showcase this industry's great work and to reward their achievements. Congratulations to all the nominees." [1]

The ceremony was broadcast on RTÉ. [9] Highlights were broadcast on RTÉ2 on 22 April 2024. [10]

Niamh Algar is an Irish actress. She is known for winning Best Actress in a Leading Role - TV Drama at the 2020 IFTA Film & Drama Awards for her performance in The Virtues. Other roles include MotherFatherSon, Raised by Wolves and Pure. In 2021, she appeared in Wrath of Man and Censor. For her role in Calm with Horses, she was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

The 16th Irish Film & Television Academy Awards took place on 18 October 2020. Because no ceremony was held in 2019, this ceremony honoured films and television drama released in both 2018 and 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no physical ceremony took place; instead, there was a "virtual ceremony" hosted by Deirdre O’Kane.

The 17th Irish Film & Television Academy Awards took place in July 2021. The ceremony honoured Irish films and television drama released between 1 February 2020 and 31 May 2021.

The 18th Irish Film & Television Academy Awards, also called the IFTA Film & Drama Awards 2022, took place in March 2022. The ceremony honours Irish films and television drama released between 1 January 2021 and 11 March 2022. Nominations were announced on 22 February 2022. The ceremony aired on Virgin Media One on 12 March 2022, hosted by Deirdre O'Kane.

For the first and second Irish Film and Television Awards ceremonies, supporting performances for film and television were combined into one category. Up until the 2018–2019 film season, awards were given for films released in Ireland the previous year.

<i>Saltburn</i> (film) 2023 film by Emerald Fennell

Saltburn is a 2023 black comedy psychological thriller film written, directed, and co-produced by Emerald Fennell, starring Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver, and Archie Madekwe. Set in Oxford and Northamptonshire, it focuses on a student at Oxford who becomes fixated with a popular, aristocratic fellow student, who later invites him to spend the summer at his eccentric family's estate.

The Sixth Commandment is a four-part British true crime television drama series, written by Sarah Phelps and directed by Saul Dibb. Based on the murders of Peter Farquhar and Ann Moore-Martin, it stars Timothy Spall, Anne Reid, Sheila Hancock, Éanna Hardwicke, Annabel Scholey and Ben Bailey Smith.

Blue Lights is a television drama series, set in Belfast, Northern Ireland, following three probationary police officers of the Police Service of Northern Ireland and the experienced officers who train, mentor, and work with them. The series was broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, premiering on 27 March 2023; it was re-commissioned for a second series, which began broadcast in April 2024. A third and fourth series have been commissioned.

The Woman in the Wall is a six-part mystery drama television series created by Joe Murtagh and starring Ruth Wilson and Daryl McCormack. It premiered on 27 August 2023 on BBC One.

Obituary is a 2023 Irish black comedy television series created by Ray Lawlor for RTÉ and starring Siobhán Cullen.

That They May Face the Rising Sun is a 2023 Irish film. It is an adaptation of the 2002 novel of the same name by John McGahern. The film won 11 awards, including Best Film, at the 2024 Irish Film & Television Awards.
