The 23rd New York Asian Film Festival was held in New York on 12 July with World Premiere of South Korean film Victory by Park Beom-su, who attended the screening in person. In the 23rd edition 94 titles were screened in person. The film selection featured both contemporary and timeless titles from various Asian countries, as well as beyond, showcasing nine world premieres, 12 international premieres, and 38 North American premieres. [1] Films from various genres from China, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Mongolia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and beyond were screened. [2] [3]
In Star Asia Awards category, Asian stars were honoured with various awards such as: Nicholas Tse a Hong Kong actor, singer, songwriter, entrepreneur and TV chef with Screen International Star Asia Award; Zhang Jianian (Tai Bo), Hong Kong and Taiwan film actor, with Screen International Star Asia Lifetime Achievement Award; Lee Hye-ri, a South Korean actress, singer, and television personality, with Screen International Rising Star Asia Award; and Kento Yamazaki a Japanese actor and model, with Best from the East Award. The festival was closed on 28 July with Hong Kong director Soi Cheang's film Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In . A Malaysian co-production film Snow in Midsummer by Chong Keat Aun won the Uncaged Award for best feature film. It revolves around Ah Eng, a young woman, and her mother who lose contact with the father and brother of the former amid political riots. The Audience Award was awarded to Thailand film How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies by Pat Boonnitipat. , which follows M, a university dropout low on money and luck, volunteers to take care of his terminally ill grandmother in the hopes for an inheritance. [5] In his closing speech the NYAFF Executive Director and President of the New York Asian Film Foundation Samuel Jamier said, "this year’s edition had "shattered expectations, we’ve witnessed an unprecedented 33% growth in both attendance and box office revenue, and one-third of our screenings sold out within days." He further said, "This year’s festival also showcased a broader range of narratives, from intimate personal dramas to epic historical sagas, reflecting the rich tapestry of Asian storytelling." [6]

The New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) is a film festival held in New York City dedicated to the display of Asian film and culture. The New York Asian Film Festival generally features contemporary premieres and classic titles from Eastern Asia and Southeast Asia, though South Asian cinema has also been represented via films from India and Pakistan.
The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), formerly the Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF), held annually in Haeundae-gu, Busan, South Korea, is one of the most significant film festivals in Asia. The first festival, held from 13 to 21 September 1996, was also the first international film festival in Korea.

The story follows Ryan Fu, a gay Chinese American fashion stylist, who rejects his ethnic heritage, who is assigned to style Ning, an ostensibly heterosexual patriotic actor from Beijing. Front Cover received mostly positive critical reception and received awards from festivals such as San Diego Outfest, Boston Asian American Film Festival, and Outflix Film Festival.
Suk Suk is a 2019 Hong Kong drama film written and directed by Ray Yeung. It presents the story of two secretly homosexual married men in their twilight years. The film was selected to compete in the Panorama section at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival.
Hand Rolled Cigarette is a 2020 Hong Kong neo-noir crime drama film written and directed by Chan Kin-long in his directorial debut, and starring Gordon Lam as a retired colonial-era soldier who takes in a troubled South Asian youth. The film opened the 17th Hong Kong Asian Film Festival on 3 November 2020, and also closed the 57th Golden Horse Film Festival on 19 and 20 November 2020, where it was nominated for seven awards including Best Feature Film. The film held a special preview screening in Hong Kong on 30 April 2021, before it was widely released on 17 June 2021 in the territory.
The 20th New York Asian Film Festival was held in New York from 6 August to 22 August 2021. The opening film of the festival was Escape from Mogadishu, a South Korean film by Ryoo Seung-wan. Seventy titles were screened both online, as well as in person. The 20th edition of the festival featured two world premieres, six international premieres, twenty nine North American premieres, eight U.S. premieres and nine New York premieres.
Perhaps Love is a 2021 South Korean comedy-drama film, directed by Jo Eun-ji for Next Entertainment. Starring Ryu Seung-ryong, Oh Na-ra and Kim Hee-won, the film revolves around a best selling writer named Hyeon who has been in the slumps for 7 years. Then he meets an aspiring author Yoo-jin, who brings about change in his values.
The 21st New York Asian Film Festival began in New York from 15 July with the opening film of the festival Fast and Feel Love, a Thai film by Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit. The 21st edition was celebrated as 20th anniversary of the festival and seventy titles were screened in person. The lineup included six world premieres, eight international premieres, 19 North American premieres, four U.S. premieres, and 17 East Coast premieres. The festival closed with Korean sci-fi 2022 film Alienoid by Choi Dong-hoon on 31 July. Mongolian film The Sales Girl by Janchivdorj Sengedorj won the Uncaged Award for Best Feature Film.
Fast and Feel Love is a 2022 Thai parody action comedy film written, directed and produced by Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit, starring Urassaya Sperbund and Nat Kitcharit distributed by GDH. And this film is an imitation of Fast and Furious franchise
Chilli Laugh Story is a 2022 Hong Kong comedy film co-written and directed by Coba Cheng, a debutant director. An amusing and sometimes unexpectedly poignant comedy starring Ronald Cheng, Gigi Leung, Edan Lui, and Sandra Ng, it was initially scheduled to release on 1 February 2022, the first day of Lunar New Year, but it was postponed due to COVID-19 and finally released on 14 July 2022.
Table for Six is a 2022 Hong Kong comedy film written and directed by Sunny Chan. It was written as a sequel to the 2015 short film Table for Three. The film is centered around the classical Chinese motifs of shared meals and dysfunctional family ties. It was initially scheduled to be released on 1 February 2022, the first day of the Lunar New Year, but it was postponed until 8 September 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mama's Affair is a 2022 Hong Kong drama film written and directed by Kearen Pang. Starring Teresa Mo, Keung To, Jer Lau, Kaki Sham and Tang Lai Ying, the film follows a former talent manager and housewife, who discovers a new star, then she finds it difficult to balance her family and her career life. The film had its world premiere at 17th Osaka Asian Film Festival in competition section on 12 March 2022, and was released on 11 August 2022 in Hong Kong.
The Sunny Side of the Street is a 2022 Hong Kong drama film written and directed by Lau Kok Rui. The feature debut of Malaysia-born Lau Kok-rui, the film tells the story of a Hong Kong-born Pakistani refugee boy who forms an unexpected bond with a local taxi driver.
Mad Fate is a 2023 Hong Kong mystery thriller film directed by Soi Cheang, produced by Milkyway Image, and stars Gordon Lam, Lokman Yeung, Berg Ng, Ng Wing-sze and Peter Chan. In addition to being the film's director, Cheang also served as a film's executive producer. The film followed a fortune-teller who crosses paths with a young man with a strong desire to commit murder and tries to change the latter's destiny.
The 22nd New York Asian Film Festival was held in New York on 14 July with North American premiere of South Korean film Killing Romance by Lee Won-suk, who attended the screening in person. In the 22nd edition seventy eight titles were screened in person. The lineup included eight world premieres, nine international premieres, thirty-two North American premieres, three U.S. premieres, and sixteen East Coast/New York premieres. Films from various genres from Hong Kong, Japan, China, South Korea, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Singapore, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, and the United States were screened.
All Shall Be Well is a 2024 Hong Kong drama film written and directed by Ray Yeung. The film starring Patra Au, Maggie Li Lin Lin initially revolves around Angie and Pat, who are a well-off lesbian couple in their mid-60s but the story ultimately explores family dynamics after the sudden death of Pat.
